Tokyo Food Bar opens at JR Akihabara Station

A new type of food court opened Wednesday at JR Akihabara Station in Tokyo, featuring seven authentic dining selections to sate the appetites of hungry shoppers and commuters.

Run by Nippon Restaurant Enterprise (NRE), Tokyo Food Bar houses traditional tonkatsu restaurant Ginza Bairin, an Indian curry restaurant produced by Shonan's popular Indian Garanaka Kaigan, Tokyo Backhaus bakery, and four others all inside the ticket gates of Akihabara Station.

NRE said it hopes that Tokyo Food Bar will reap sales of 1 billion yen per year.

Always welcome new additions, but aren't there a few too many curry houses in Akihabara already? Or are they stereotyping us as curry addicts? I guess there's some truth in that..

I will be amazed if the dining experience is really "authentic".

When they say authentic Indian dining, I assume it's nothing like those Anglo-bastardised joints right?

I love the curry. Good luck to that place, but they're competing against some pretty cheap places...

Curry with French bread rocks.

The only thing I wanna know is, do they have butter chicken curry?

Just a quick correction. The name of the indian restaurant is Gara Nakakaigan. Simply named as it is located in Nakakaigan in Chigasaki city. Can recommend it highly. As with most foods in this country and in most other countries too, it has been adapted to fit the local tastebuds. Sarge - the restaurant in Chigasaki does have butter chicken. Can never have enough curry restaurants.....
