The Chinese, who themselves were victimized by being used as slave labor for foreign corporations over 80 years ago, are now the ones doing it to other peoples.

The irony.

I am familiar with one of the factories using forced Uighurs - was surprised to see it. It was several years ago now that I visited, so I don't think they were yet importing Uighurs as forced labor. But it made me think how easy it is to get away with it. When a rep from Nike comes to check out the factory - he may not speak Chinese. And he certainly is always with a factory manager or the like who will show him around the factory and give him VIP treatment. All he will see are workers. He won't know the circumstances they are working under - and in many cases the Uighurs will not speak Chinese. The staff will know not to say anything to the foreign visitors, as they will pay for it later.

It would take somebody more determined, and willing to be a but antagonistic, to get the facts. But the company reps are also responsible for getting the factory to lower prices and provide better quality, and don't have much incentive to question how they do it. Of course the companies will "act" when a spotlight is shined on it, like in the recent news. But the best thing is simply to pull out of China until they have established basic human rights and abolished slave labor.

The trend in China these days are full of irony:

The CCP forced Uyghur muslims to eat pork, then China got swine flue.

The CCP used its own population as leverage against countries that rely on tourism economy, now nobody wants Chinese tourists.

The CCP banned Hong Kongers from wearing masks, now masks are in short supply in China.

Oh the irony. Keep it up CCP, keep it up...

The CCP pressured the NBA not to allow individual players to share their feelings about the protests in Hong Kong by threatening to not televise the games.

Now athletes from abroad or within the country will be unwilling to participate in any of their events, while this outbreak is going on.

Finally, China has invested its future in technology and is shifting away from textiles, but now they are now caught mistreating the Uighur population again.

Truly an ironic situation!

The Chinese government is a great student of history. They are always playing the long game. For the past 60+ years, they have been copying everything they can from both the East and West and discarding anything that possibly topple their regime.

Now they are copying the forced labor camps from Nazi Germany, Imperialist Japan, and the historical slavery/private prison system of the US.

This is why China got rid of the three journalist because of their coverage of the Uighurs.

"The brands, it added, included "Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen".

Shame on these companies. Well maybe Huawei is to be expected.

Welcome to the world of globalization.

As if these top brands didn't know already.

In those supply chain contracts, the appendix, all those 'to be confirmed' items, and never actually confirmed. Do they pursue full compliance? I doubt it.

You’re never going to confirm anything in china, they won’t allow it. Only what they LET you see.

That's not true - it's not North Korea. If someone make a real effort to look into these issues, they can get the truth quite easily by asking around. Part of the problem is that companies using the factories aren't very motivated to find the truth, and any employee (of Apple, Nike or whoever) who made a point of digging would probably be hurting their career.

My turn!

The CCP adopted a surveillance policy to monitor its citizens with facial recognition software and on social media.

Now the coronavirus requires everyone to wear face mask, so they can't identify anyone!

Who is next?
