Yeah, making TVs is commodity business now. Not worth the cap ex to stay in that field. Power gen, and all the other stuff Toshiba is into is worth concentrating on. Good for them, you have to evolve, or you die. Look at Fuji film vs Kodak as an example

Well it is important to note that consumer products such as TV and domestic appliance provide brand awareness to general public all over the world. Let’s not forget that likes of Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba have managed to build a reputation for themselves on back of consumer electronics not industrial products which have led to and help build up a quality reputation for themselves as well as other Japanese brands

I own 2 Toshiba TVs. One replaced a Mitsubishi TV that was well over 20 yrs old. The rear-projection Toshiba worked for about 7 yrs. The other, an LCD, is still working, but not used more than a few times a year since we got a projector. There's something about a 100inch image that makes 65inch and smaller just not worth it. Plus the projector is cheaper than most quality TVs and bright enough to watch in a slightly dimmed room - basically no direct sunlight.

I don't ever expect to purchase an expensive TV again. Projectors have ruined it for us plus we don't watch "live TV" much, if ever. TVs are just for emergency news if there isn't any internet.

Toshiba is making a smart business decision.
