Toshiba, the Japanese Huawei, once a proud semiconductor manufacturer then villified by the USA for the same reasons

Toshiba should shut business that they are not expert at.

Toshiba is leading innovation at committing frauds and doing good PR acts. I recently read a few comments on Yahoo Japan about this issue. There are people calling Japan to be designated as a poor country, and almost every comment is extremely pessimistic (more than my comments in JT).

In 2016 Toshiba started construction on the biggest site I ever seen. This site is about 40 hectares and it where they are going to produce semi-conductors. Compare housing prices before and after 2016 around Kitakami and Hanamaki. Up 15% because of the influx of about 1000 new employees imported in from other arms of Toshiba work force. It soon to be completed. I assume this will became one side of the split. This site is south of Hanamaki airport and North of Kitakami. It is huge. Once you see how huge this project is you wonder why people are saying Toshiba future is bleek.

You are referring to Kioxia. This is not the same as Toshiba. Kioxia used to be Toshiba Memory Corporation, but it was sold off and renamed.

A few years ago, Toshiba were pinning their future business hopes on 'Decommissioning Nuclear Power Plants', a potential winner in Japan and elsewhere. They seem to have given up on that, and just gone for creative accounting.

i remember days when Toshiba have produced reasonably priced and reliable boom boxes...but now...I see nothing interesting or better than others can offer, its nothing special anymore...

Total incompetence. Cant make up it's mind just like jgov.

Yup! That's Japan.

In any other country, this company would be dead in the water a long time ago. It is only thanks to financial and accounting trickery that it has continued on for so long.

See my above comment.

Then you prefer getting the vaccines rolled out 6 months later, limiting testing to keep the numbers artificially low, having pointless quasi-emergencies that serve to put more people in restaurants before closing hours, getting two useless cloth masks months after the pandemic started, paying your taxes to fund restaurants and hotel owners to sell cheap rooms in the middle of a pandemic, and locking down the country for two years pretending that it made a difference.

EXACTLY! LOL

Wow, a large company with extremely slow and overly cautious decision-making issues, I'm shocked. ;)

Do you mean like GM or British energy companies? How about American Banks?

The group said it plans to spin off its device segment, including its semiconductor business, in a bid to speed up decision-making and boost stock performance.

Ironic that the decision to split the company into two instead of three has taken them months to make.

It is too late for Toshiba and many others on the same path. The problems that led to their downfall are chronic and no amount of surface-level changes are going to steer them back into relevance. The best they can hope is to spin-off their most profitable businesses into a new company that no one from the current management including the midlevel managers can transfer to and give its leadership to someone with long experience abroad and let the other company slowly drive itself to bankruptcy.

Twice as many board members, office staff, Twice as many opportunities to loose even more money but twice the opportunity to garner twice as much tax payer money come bail out time.

Or, you can rename the company like Facebook did to hide.
