How expensive? Depends who you ask.

Apply "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - Main question is "can Toyota afford the cost of recall?" Answer is 'Yes' without a doubt. What about investors? no concerns whatsoever, TOYOTA share prices are rising faster than everfore !

But often forgotten amid the recent bad news is what’s going right for Toyota, analysts say.

It obvious the Associate Press have nothing else to cover because there are Toyota stories in the news everyday. The Associate Press is doing its best in keeping the Toyota poor PR alive and kicking. The news media is very good at recycling the Toyota recall.

Hopefully Toyota will learn from their mistakes and move on.I would rather buy a Toyota than a out of business GMC Hummer.

The Japanese government will save them just like the United States did for GM. A backroom deal surely will be happening soon.

"The Japanese government will save them just like the United States did for GM."

Who says Toyota needs government support to survive?

At least 89 class-action lawsuits have been filed against the Japanese automaker, which could cost the company $3 billion or more.

The lawyers are going to take Toyota to the bank and cleaned them out for every penny they can get.

That's what you get for doing business in the States because you screwed up big time.

By the time this is over, the only Americans left with safe and reliable transportation will be the Amish with their horse-drawn conveyances.

"That's what you get for doing business in the States because you screwed up big time."

The only thing Toyota screwed up was falling into that trap. But it won't take long before we know more about this political cesspool.

Lawsuits. US at it's finest.

remember all recalls were for cars with the faulty parts and the cars themselves, manufactured and acquired from american auto suppliers. Ofcourse you will argue that Toyota was responsible for quality control no matter where that parts came from, but, Toyota trusted their suppliers, after being in business with their suppliers for a long time. All toyota has to do is shift its supplier base to its roots and be back in business.

You're very naive if you believe Toyota will be allowed to not use domestic suppliers while selling into the US market.

"You're very naive if you believe Toyota will be allowed to not use domestic suppliers while selling into the US market."

Then, according to you, the only option is to ban Toyota's. Who's naive here?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Err no, they'll continue to use the same domestic suppliers and be quiet about it...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Then what happens if those same domestic suppliers you're talking about make faulty parts again? The US will blame Toyota again? Or will they blame their own domestic suppliers?

Then what happens if those same domestic suppliers you're talking about make faulty parts again?

Well you see, the findings have indicated the problem was how the parts were designed, not how they produced. That means the problem really isn't the supplier's fault.

Of course, this all assumes Toyota actually know what the problem is, which isn't particularly obvious.

I hope you find the world of international business amusing. I wouldn't worry too much about who is right and who is wrong. You'd be going down a blind-alley that way...

Roomtemperature asks; "Who says Toyota needs government support to survive?"

I dunno- didn't they ask for $2 Billion dollars in bailout money from the J gov ?

Skipbeat; "That's what you get for doing business in the States..."

Toyota has reported, claimed, boasted of record profits- "for doing business in the States". Their downfall is self inflicted and is no reflection of the US market system. Try not to be so bitter.

Roomtemperature in "what if mode"; "what happens if those same domestic suppliers you're talking about make faulty parts again? The US will blame Toyota again? Or will they blame their own domestic suppliers?"

As junnama has pointed out, I imagine they will blame the designers, engineers, testers, and ultimately the seller of the final product- who is responsible for the finished product. Odd, but none of the suppliers names were being bandied about when Toyota was raking in millions in profits. I never once heard them advertise their products as using "such and such" technology. It's not like US computer companies who clearly credit " Intel with their bold white and blue stickers claiming- "Intel inside". Nope- this is on Toyota 100%. They failed to share the wealth, now they wanna spred the misery ? Again- how low can these guys go ?

I am not bitter. My point was Toyota screwed up and the lawyers and some people are going to go after Toyota for huge settlements.

What these lawsuits and settlements means for the rest of the people who buys a Toyota in the future will lead to the vehicle to be more expensive due to lawsuits that says it is okay to sued a company for billions of dollars.

I can see and understand the lawsuits for car fatalities. Lawsuits that says otherwise are going after Toyota because they are anti-Toyota/unhappy customers.
