Noliving, your measure of superiority are looks, class and so called love for nature? The Prius and Model S are not comparable. The Prius' market is family motoring, in which it's been hugely successful at affordably reducing emissions. It's looks are inoffensive (I've seen noone chunder as a Prius passed by), it's reliable, much of the car is recyclable and it's one of the few classless (ie, makes no statement on its drivers social status) mass production cars you can drive.

It's still early days for Tesla and they are successful, but so small in scale their impact is almost immeasurable. The Model S' looks are derivative, it's relatively cheap in a niche where 'class' is measured by price but in no way priced as a daily driver, and reliability is yet to be proven with yet another fire in recent days. Superiority is very difficult to demonstrate but in measurable terms such as sales, tons of co2 saved, resources recycled and societal impact, the Prius breaks its fast with the Model S and evacuates itself all over Tesla.

Here we go again. Who ever is responsible for "quality control" in Toyota must be asleep.

I love my Prius! I have had several cars and by far his is the best car I have owned. So what if they are recalling them, at least they are fixing the problem right away.

In the resent snow storm my Prius was wonderful in the snow no problems!!

I've warmed up to the Prius. I used to think it was one of the ugliest cars produced today, but it's grown on me

It still is one of the ugliest cars produced today. Tesla Model S now that is a thing of beauty!

Car Companies need to reduce too much relying on Computer software control system in car.

Noliving, do you mean the Tesla Roman Candle? They're currently unders investigation following a series of fires. Not uncommon with any lithium ion battery. Let's be honest, there isn't a car maker out there that doesn't drop a bollock every now and then. Despite the recent setbacks Toyota still has an envyable reputation for quality and service.

Wow three fires all of which were caused in accidents, one accident was by metallic object that hit the underside of the vehicle at a force of 25 tons. Another was caused by the driver speeding above the speed limit and through a round-about causing the driver to lose control and go through a wall and ultimately smashing into a tree, I'm not surprised that one would cause a fire at all are you?

Gee I wonder if Toyota has had any Prius start on fire in an accident?

The truth of the matter is that Tesla Model S is a far superior car if you have class and a love for nature and don't want an ugly car, Toyota Prius is UGLY!

Maybe everybody in this world could be convinced of buying a prius if they think like me. My prius gives me a conviner MPG of 60. I dont need anyone to tell me if its Eco friendly or not. The car is great, it looks great inside. If I want a Nicer car I would buy a Mercedes Benz S class.

The Prius is not ugly.

No, its ugly alright.

Its nice that its green and all, but the appearance is terrible.

And before you accuse me of wasting resources, I choose to ride my bike during the work week to make up for using my gas guzzling, but not ugly, car on weekends.

Have a Prius V (Alpha in Japan) and coudl not be happier.

Seems a minor software upgrade...much better than the Ford I had a few years ago with 70,000 klm on it that collapsed while parked overnight (the springs broke and their only comment was yes, this is a known problem caused by faulty metal casting--pay for the repairs yourself)

Toyota recalled more than 5 millions vehicles in 2013, I believe. Now this one in addition to halt the production of some models due to flame risks last month, and it became difficult to argue that Toyota has no quality problem for its cars.

" You critics prefer Vega Hatchbacks? Dodge Aspens? (Owned both to my great chagrin, and will never forget those absolute lemons.)"

And now a Prius... See a trend?

I'd prefer a fully non-electronic car than an electronically handicapped junker. Even a Corsair. I had one, and it ran like a dream.

Sorry, Toyota can kiss my gritts! Not wasting my hard earned $$ on them! Hell no!

Love ours ... absolutely no complaints with the car or the service. Now on our second Toyota in 18 consecutive years and have never been happier.

You critics prefer Vega Hatchbacks? Dodge Aspens? (Owned both to my great chagrin, and will never forget those absolute lemons.)

Today's Detroit makes cars that only because of Toyota are perhaps now worth buying.

Bob SneiderFEB. 12, 2014 - 06:27PM JST toyota have proved time and again their incompetency. This is their second major recall in three weeks. In 2012, 2013, they were the number one in the world for call recalls. Its time for consumers to wisen up and choose another carmaker, maybe hyundai or kia, who have been doing amazingly in reliability and warranties.

Consumers are wise enough to say hyundai(Made in China sounded brand) and kia(unrecognisable brand) have had recalls too!

Knox HarringtonFEB. 12, 2014 - 05:59PM JST Good. Recall them all, they're ugly. Still the No: 1 car maker in the world. What does that have to do with anything?

The Prius is not ugly. It's just you don't have a taste for it. It's for people with class and love for nature. Like Hollywood.

It's technically called "radar brake" in Japan, an invention that is invented for idiot drivers, not for drivers with a real feel to the street and its surroundings. Told my wife a year ago that shit will hit the fan some day and now that day has come. Foresighted predictable driving is not taught and unheared of here. People don't drive cars anymore. They're driven by their cars.

Oh god here we go again...

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I have test drove this car. Its quiet and gas saving. But I frequently travel up hills and slopes. That's when this car simply loses power and snail up the slopes. It's not too gas saving when you have to pump hard on the gas pedal to try to make it move just a bit faster. And its ugly as hell. With the amount of horse power and the size of the vehicle, the Prius is actually quite over-rated for its price.

Compare this with a 100 miles per gallon Ford Fusion, which just flies on the slopes, its a no brainer that Ford hybrid and electric cars are better and more efficient than the Toyota these days. And their sync functions are much better as well with great factory warranty.

But I'm a sucker for performance. So I will never leave my M6.

Looks like Toyota has learned to be honest and quick to admit their mistakes, instead of blaming "gaijin driver errors" after the largest ever recall by any automaker in history! hope nobody dies..
