It's Toyota and Mazda! Zoom zoom zoom.
The reason this matters is that Mazda have produced possibly the best Japanese mass market car of recent years, the CX-5 crossover SUV. The clean diesel one gets 13km/l off 120 yen diesel, super cheap for a 4wd car, does 0-100km/h in under eight seconds, and comes close in styling to the Audi and BMW crossovers that cost nearly double. It's a great car.
Toyota's own SUVs aren't exactly bad, the Land Cruiser and HiLux are legendary and the crossover Harrier, sold as a Lexus overseas, is pretty good too. But Mazda are on form and this could be a fruitful collaboration.
