no problem, Russia car will develop further its car industry

Would have been better if they had stopped production on the grounds of decency and morality and not supporting murderers rather than being forced to because of supply issues. Toyota should close down their whole operation in russia.

Russia doesn't have the electronics capability to build modern automobiles. I recall when I was on active duty we knew the Russians had examples of some high end western weapons but had no idea how to produce them. I have seen some of their best hardware and it is nothing like you see in good western electronics, They don't have complex printed circuit boards like ours and automated assembly, everything is painstakingly hard wired and hand soldered. especially the mil spec stuff. Without access to western solid state devices and automotive control software the Russians on their own could build something along the lines of the old VAZ 21033 with a carburetor instead of fuel injection but certainly not something as complex and software intensive as a Toyota Camry.

LADA was the best car in the Soviet if they were left in the garages. Millions are still in them along with Soviet tanks and other ancient weapons.

I am sure that everyone wishes things were otherwise, but as long as the homicidal maniac is in charge of Russia, normal relations are impossible.

Even the Lada was a heavy and bad copy of the Fiat Mirafiori, that was a zippy high reving engined car, pity the bodywork rusted for a pastime.

The Fiat 131 had a carburetor instead of fuel injection, points instead of solid state electronic ignition, rear wheel drum brakes, with no ABS.

A beautiful car, and a collector's item, but not up to today's standards.

The Lada you are thinking of, more properly the VAZ 21033, was a copy of the older Fiat 124 sedan. I've always kind of wanted one but the Fiat made versions have long since rusted away. A shipmate's Fiat 131 actually broke in half from rust! Surprisingly there are some very clean super low mile VAZ 2100 series cars for sale in the US but for now I suppose it would bad manners to buy one, even though I have always kind of liked them.
