Suddenly I can see the choke hold on Uber in this nation being eased somewhat; so long as Japan Inc. is involved in the money-making and the spreading of it.

It just has. Toyota's imprimatur means everything.
Smokescreen. Uber's goal is autonomous vehicles.

Hopefully this will get rid of the rubhish taxi drivers in Tokyo and improve safety with less old stubborn idiots who only see a fare in front of them.

You mean the ones that get you to your destination really quickly and safely, wearing uniforms and white gloves, opening the door for you, and never expect a tip? I shall be sad for the excellent taxi drivers, but since most cars have only the driver uber sounds like a really good way of reducing the number of vehicles on the roads and consumption of oil.
