So we are going to have the same situation as ishiharas bank, a dead duck that is continously pumped with tax cash to keep it afloat when it should just be taken out the back and put out of it's misery. And people are asking why fuel surcharges are a bad idea!! More tax=less spending, so those in power decide to raise taxes/prices again.... Hmmm experts.

I always fly ANA.

No worries, ilcub76, JAL's too big to fail. And even if they do, you'll still get home for X-Mas. Other, better and cheaper, airlines will gladly pick up the slack.

Let them die. The Canadian government has bailed out Air Canada and they still haven't learned their lesson by lower prices and having decent service. JAL will be no different. I thought the whole thing about a "free market" and whatnot was that governments were supposed to step in and help? I smell a bailout coming soon!

Since 9/11, airport security concerns have taken all the fun out of international travel. Not that it was that much fun before, but now it's awful. I remember when people used to put on neckties and get their shoes shined when they flew JAL. Now you're lucky if the ghoul in the seat beside you isn't exposing two thirds of his or her epidermis.

JAL is zombie,so is Boeing which now 50 percent Zombie, with 50 percent cut in jobs.

JAL's fate as a zombie flag-carriers guarantees nothing but a compromise in failure.

ilcub: I'd be more concerned if they ARE still in business. You're going to be getting a pilot who's making $10 an hour and working another job to make ends meet. The red-eye will take on new meaning.
JAL had great service until about 9 years ago. They've been hiding their crap in cuts for a while now, and clearly they suck. The government just doesn't want to bust them out of sentimentality.

I'm scheduled to fly JAL over Christmas / New Year's. I hope they're still in business, or I'm screwed.
