I think that the USA, and every other country should now put a 778% tariff on all Japanese imported rice. Lets end this trade deficit once and for all. Japan has been taking the p*** for too long. Ex-President Trump at least brought this to world attention.

Interesting how the Biden administration has not been in a hurry to remove the Trump tariffs, and how the warnings of economic disaster have fallen flat. The US economy is on a tear right now, adding half a million jobs despite omicron.

Japan is always trying to take and never give.

It's ironic that, even after Japan applies a 778% tariff on imported rice, the price is still comparable to Japanese rice. I don't see what the problem of importing rice is, given the fact that the Japanese boast that theirs is the best - so why worry? I personally loved frangrant, light rice, as opposed to high GI mush.

"Japan has been asking for exemptions..."

It's what they are best at... well, asking. Not always getting. I wonder how many weapons systems they had to promise to buy in return.

Here in the US, the Japanese supermarkets my family frequents usually carry 4 or 5 different 5kg sacks of Japanese rice (Niigata, Yamagata, Akita, etc.). We often buy it because though it's more expensive, it is noticeably better than the California 'Japanese' rice.

What did the US get in return, or will that be kept secret?

No it's not.

It will be interesting to hear the feedback from U.S. steelmakers...

What did the US get in return, or will that be kept secret?

How much more could the U.S. ask from Japan than putting it exactly in the bullseye of a future war and 70 years of military occupation and civilian abuse by those occupiers??? Think about it just a little...and, if I misunderstood your meaning, I apologize...
