The courts are being ignored by the current 'administration' so unless the happy chaps at nippon steel bow, scrape, grovel and throw money at trumple thinskin they'll not be getting anything.

a foreign company owning the iconic producer would not be good psychologically.

The current President of the U.S. has not been very good for the world, psychologically.

Time to throw on the towel on a merger, why not pursue a joint venture with US Steel etc.?

DJT 're-industrialization' of US policy means he'll oppose any take-over, so it'll never happen and will just be tied up in courts in a 'best' case scenario.

Do not invest in the US now until the fellow in the white house is out.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Record US $capital flows now due to DJT policies, including lower taxes, regulations energy costs etc.

US Steel is an isolated issue, companies now busy reshoring to US to also avoid tariff risk. DJT's economic policy is re-industrialization and reciprocal trade focused.

Biden issued an order to block the $14.1 billion takeover of U.S. Steel by the Japanese company, citing national security grounds, following a recommendation by the panel also known as CFIUS.

This statement suggests that Biden followed a recommendation by the CFIUS.

That is not true. It was widely reported that the CFIUS were unable to reach a definitive conclusion, and therefore left it to the POTUS.

Just wait a while until they go bankrupt resulting from the Orange Felon's strategy to enforce tariffs on his main supplier....Canada. America is destined for a very deep depression, especially as the Felon is alienating all of America's allies and sucking up to Putin.

US Steel (and aluminum) business set to take off with massive new shipbuilding contracts and shipyards and auto plants being built as two of many NEW steel and aluminum catalysts due to DJT policy of re-industrializing US.

Equally important will be all the new energy production needed and many new gas pipelines to power AI.

DJT = MAGA, via Re-Industrialization Policies

Where are the shipyards and skilled workers to build them? The US cannot meet the aluminum demand.

America is destined for a very deep depression

Here's hoping.

Hopefully the MAGA-supporting blue-collar workers right at the bottom of the heap feel the full brunt of the pain in a crushing way.

Due to DJT economic policy, US Re-Industrial Rennaissance is happening. Companies from all industries both inside and outside the US busy announcing new manufacturing, mining and production.

Especially, steel, aluminum, auto, chip and pharma production reshoring ASAP to US, DJT just announced giant planned US production of 48 giant icebreakers!

US Voters approve of DJT economic policies, confidence in direction of US is HIGHEST it's been in decades, after being at or near LOWEST in History under Biden Admin.

How long to build an aluminum smelting plant? 2-3 years. Training of workers 1-2 years.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

My prediction, Nippon Steel will announce major new US investments in order to re-shore their production to US.

Thus gain 15% Corp. Tax Rate, far lower energy costs, eliminate cost of trans-Pacific shipping and ZERO tariffs!

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Easy to do joint ventures to speed up hiring and training, Nippon will do so quite possibly with US Steel.

Plants can be built very rapidly, giant data centers now built in a matter of a few months, example, X.AI in Tennesse, world's largest compute in just 4+ months

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

My training was in a smelting plant and heavy chemical plants. There are no shortcuts in building them due to required safety standards. Training of operators takes many months. The US lacks skilled workers. There are no magic wands.

What DJT's likely telling Nippon Steel and ALL foreign executives is besides no tariffs, 15% corp. tax rate, lower energy costs, zero sea-based shipping costs, "re-shore to the US and I will Expedite all regulatory steps, greatly speeding up your investment's path to profitability".

Nippon Steel if serious about US market will $invest, as they're competitors are doing so already.

The rebuilding of the US manufacturing industry and new industries will take years to complete. It not just about money but also supplies of materials and skilled staffs. US companies gutted their American plants and moved overseas. American capitalism.

There are no merchant shipbuilding yards. There are not enough raw ores.

In 2023, service industries accounted for 79.09% of US employment, while manufacturing represented 9.7%.

Give Trump enough of a personal kickback and the wheels will be sufficiently greased.

Give Trump enough of a personal kickback and the wheels will be sufficiently greased.

That's the difference, DJT and his cabinet don't want or need $money, hence change in economic policy to re-industrialize, reciprocal tariffs and DOGE to name a few.

DJT's cleaning up the US Govt., making it efficient and well run like a business, meaning private sector led investing in America, especially industrial and manufacturing led, like steel, auto, chips, pharma etc.

Donald Trump Is Going to Destroy American Manufacturing

Bidenomics created a manufacturing boom. Trump is tearing that up by the roots.

Manufacturing employment increased by about 750,000 during Biden’s term—only about 100,000 more jobs than in 2019, but still the first time in 50 years that the recovery from a recession ended up with more manufacturing jobs than before, and in any case much of the employment from that investment has not come online because the factories aren’t finished yet.

In 2020,  At least 55 of the largest corporations in America paid no federal corporate income taxes in their most recent fiscal year despite enjoying substantial pretax profits.

Nippon Steel will likely soon invest in US if truly interested in future profits and shareholder returns.

Many companies pouring capital into the US, record private sector inflows, due to DJT policy to 're-industrialize' the US and the usage of "reciprocal" tariffs. Especially auto, steel, aluminum, chip, pharma, etc.

Companies doing so will receive huge tax benefits and never have to worry about tariffs.

DJT was elected in part to create jobs and re-industrialize the US with efficient private capital taking risk, NOT Govt wasteful capital and ensure fair trade access to other markets thru the use of reciprocal tariffs.

Honda's a PERFECT example of a company, that uses LOTS of Steel, that just moved a planned massive auto plant to the US from Mexico. About 10 automakers have announced similar plans already since DJT's election.
