Isn't it called "over capacity"?

Japan needs to copy Hyundai's just announced massive new steel plant to be built in the US. Lower energy costs, no transpacific shipping and low corp. tax rates just a few of the merits!

Lower energy costs, no transpacific shipping and low corp.

wont stop tariffs on the raw material imports to make the steel.

the reason aluminium is cheaper from Canada is because it needs huge amounts of cheap electricity.

Canada hydro electricilty is far cheaper than anything the US can produce. Trump has just unilaterally decided to make steel more expensive for every US consumer

Add tariffs on US goods until trump understand. Boycott made in the USA like Canada is doing too.

Isn't it called "over capacity"?

No.

You would have to stupid, dumb what other adjectives you can come up with to build a new steel plant in the USA. Two factor quality and quantity of ore. Just good enough to product rolled steel sheeting for auto industry but nothing else.

Boycott made in the USA like Canada is doing too.*

Sure, you can boycott whatever you like , it's a free country.

Japan needs to copy Hyundai's just announced massive new steel plant to be built in the US.

It would be idiotic for any non-US company to invest in the US right now.

The administration has already torn up international law to attack the movement of goods across borders with its trade wars, and has also cracked down on the movement of people. Its only a matter of time before it goes after the movement of capital across borders too. If trade treaties with the US aren't worth the paper they are printed on then investment treaties aren't worth much either.

Any foreign investment in the US is going to be at severe risk of expropriation or other adverse actions by a hostile host state run by oligarchs that view themselves as above the law.

According to Trump this is not the case:

Trump calls Tesla boycott ‘illegal’

US energy costs massively dropping, due to 'drill baby drill' DJT energy policy, especially natural gas, LNG, nuclear etc.

Key reason why new aluminum and steel production 're-shoring' to US, because their many auto customers are also busy expanding their US production.

DJT Reciprocal & Sector Tariffs having Intended Effect!

Taiwan's largest ship builder just announced $200 Billion investment to expand in US for first time, they'll need LOTS of steel too, why well over $3 Trillion in NEW US manufacturing investment announced just since 5 Nov!

US energy costs massively dropping, due to 'drill baby drill' DJT energy policy, especially natural gas, LNG, nuclear etc.

Drill-baby-drill has not even begun with production output near the limit. It will have no immediate effect on energy costs. Oil companies have no plans to increase production.

US energy costs dropping mainly due to pipelines being approved, delivering more natural gas to many new regions, especially Northeast, where energy costs for home heating and cooling set to fall by over 50%.

Trump says the Alaskan natural gas and LNG business will be the largest in the world. Trump is even allowing many shuttered coal plants to re-open with new clean coal tech. Finally, AI investments building their own new electrical generation, either gas or modular nuclear.

Above, why Steel & Aluminum plants busy expanding and/or new plants being announced, as US rapidly re-industrializing, takes a lot of energy, why so many auto and shipbuilding companies busy expanding in US etc.

Japan would be wise to reshore Steel & Aluminum to US

US Re-industrialization exciting and No Govt. money Needed, as DJT Policies Motivating the Private Sector!

Natural gas production is plummeting—a condition noted by almost no analysts. Between December 2023 and May 2024, U.S. dry gas supply has contracted by a notable 5 billion cubic feet per day—a nearly 5% reduction. On a year-over-year basis, the decline stands at 2.2 bcf/d.

Trump says the Alaskan natural gas and LNG business will be the largest in the world.

Years away from reality. They have to build a pipeline and a gas terminal.

The US doesn't have the steel making capacity to replace the steel imported from other countries. Rather than follow up on the gradualistic approach to rebuilding American industry that Biden was following, Trump wants everything done overnight, which isn't going to happen. In this case, both Japan and the US will suffer.

Rainy Day is on the money.

Big multi national companies want STABILITY , an access to a fair legal system and no disruptions caused by a baby tyrant.

Wait 4 years and reconsider investment in USA

US energy production will massively increase in days, weeks and years ahead to power US re-industrialization policy of DJT = Global Energy Dominance

As AI, steel, aluminum, auto, etc. all requires tons of power, something Europe and Asia lack big time. Japan's Steel and aluminum makers MUST follow the Japanese automakers and others by investing in US production.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

How long will take to turn a 9% manufacturing economy into even a 50% one? Years, but not days, weeks, months.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Manufacturing approx. 15% of global economy. DJT thru re-industrialization, including Steel, intends to exceed that threshold, how soon and by how much, time will tell.

$3 to $4 Trillion in New US manufacturing investments just since Nov 5th = a nice start, $LOTS more to follow, US Energy Dominance will power US manufacturing!

Above, reason why US exceptionalism exists, about 2/3 of global equity capitalization based in US etc. DJT why US citizens excited about direction of US/see above!

It's obvious Trump is doing the right thing based on the reaction of the countries screaming about the impact. Why are there no American auto plants in Japan? They could help keep the steel production booming. Why are there no American (fill in the commodity name here) plants in Japan?

New downvote record incoming (8-)

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The problem isn't the effort to deindustrialize America.......that is what Biden was doing. The problem is in thinking it can be done overnight. That is just plain stupid.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why are there no American auto plants in Japan?

Because by and large Japanese people don't want American cars. Same as Europe.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

It's obvious Trump is doing the right thing based on the reaction of the countries screaming about the impact.

You mean the USA? because that is the country with the strongest negative reactions looking at how the population is demonstrating (and how it is voting).
