Just crushes any new comers to the market that don't play by the old boys rules. airBnb are in the same category. Uber in Japan are normal taxi's and are not cheaper.

Saturated is an understatement in my area we can get food from Chinese, ramen, sushi, McD, etc, etc delivered.

I don"t think it will pay off for them, too easy to hire someone with a scooter licence or use one of the existing services like REX.

Heck our local Supermarkets also deliver if you order online, mostly pensioners doing the shopping and deliveries.

Never mind services like Watami, etc that deliver Bento-boxes on a regular basis for sick or similar people.

Food industry here is already very saturated. More people are going to join low paying delivery jobs.

That's an incredible idea, now we will suddenly have access to an insane amount of delivered food! Will definitely use heavily

Why? Japanese already have in-house delivery in and around Tokyo, and it's been around for decades.

yeah, but the choices are quite grim. as you stated, even mac delivers. but if you want a larger variety of food, like at a michelin starred restaurant, then you can chose ubereats.

People don't get it.... the customers will be Restaurants and not actual individuals. Now any Restaurant can advertise home delivery without having to hire someone. Its a great way for someone that likes riding bikes to make some extra money.

Drivers hired by UberEats are tapped online, pick up food at restaurants, and make deliveries, ensuring food arrives relatively hot and fresh. The global average for deliveries is about a half hour.

Why? Japanese already have in-house delivery in and around Tokyo, and it's been around for decades. Me thinks this is going to be a niche market and once they start charging for delivery it's going to dry up pretty quick.
