Heh heh, it might have been inappropriate but I think I might have enjoyed watching that.

Sounds like they're having more fun than most companies.

Naturally, using this as a selection criterium is not OK, but I would rather have fun in a company than suffer the usual drudgery.

"another interview where they will be given a proper opportunity to demonstrate how they can contribute to our business" - fair enough.

Mocking people who need work to feed their families and keep the roof over their heads is the disgraceful antic of todays' over populated unemployment conditions.

Certainly, if this were an advertised or necessary job skill evaluation, that would be completely acceptable.

As it appears, too many for too few jobs is a license to mock and shame desperate people. Lovely.

I agree. If they could have shown some relevance between dancing and the job then it would have been acceptable.

The jobseekers, ... , had to perform dance routines during team building exercise

... why in the name of all that is holy would you need to do team building exercises with people who you're not even sure will be part of the team at all?

I think that this line may be the source of all the confusion. I'm not sure, but quite possibly the management were looking for team players, and so did these "team building" exercises as a way of assessing who was a "team player". I'm not saying it was a good idea, just that this may have been their motivation. I've seen less logical selection criteria - like the number of times I've heard people say, "Ah, he has a good firm handshake"... as if that has anything to do with 99% of jobs.

This is the future for all of us normal folk: dance for the man, look pretty for the man, bend over for the man. And don't ever complain, or you're on the scrapheap.

Rampant capitalism in all its glory....

Rampant capitalism in all its glory....

Sorry, but I don't see that this has anything specifically to do with capitalism.

@slumdog

Powerful, moneyed man (it's usually a man) tells unemployed, rather desperate person to dance, or else.

Out of desperation, unemployed person performs humiliating dance.

That's capitalism for you. Money rules. Greed is good. Srew the poor.

I'm not sure that lucabrasi actually understands what capitalism is.

yep the little people are just toys to play with for the rulers and the elite.

the rulers and the elite

...and, apparently middle management at a Currys Megastore in Cardiff. True Masters of the Universe.

I think that 'umbrella' is closer to the truth than 'lucabrasi' - it may have been a mixed up idea to do with team integration as Frungy says, but if it was an abuse then it was an abuse of power, and that is not 'money' specific. '[T]he rulers and the elite' exist in socialist societies as much, if not more, than capitalist ones.

This is the stuff of TV comedy. no reason why being a "godd dancer" is any less a qualification for working in a crummy high street retailer than (say) being a geek.

Idiotic employer, I wouldn't want to work for such a place... Oh, if the HR manager than approved this is not fired yet, now it's the time to do it...

Oh, it's idiotic for sure. To me, it doesn't sound like they are trying to devise a clever test to determine the best candidate, it sounds like they are just a bunch of frat boys looking to make people literally dance for them.

Of course they should go to the court with that!
