I worry that standards will fall to meet the demand. Will I feel safer with pilotless planes?

It's a long way by ship to the UK from Japan.

It's a worrying trend in any field that requires skilled operators. Pilots and surgeons are the most obvious concern. But there must be worries for all jobs that affect safety and wellbeing - bus drivers, nurses, air traffic controllers, the people who program traffic signals, shinkansen brake technicians, etc. If the demand for such skills increases at a higher rate than than the population increases, we should probably be concerned. Is anyone confident enough to believe that we can boost the skill set of enough of the population to maintain safety? Half the population is of below average intelligence. That won't change. What do we do to boost that average level?

Actually average intelligence has been increasing for years.
