Don't think many people will be interested in the Astra Zeneca shot because of safety concerns. If you are more at risk from the vaccine than covid why bother?

Domestic supply will gradually shift to Japanese producers, with about 90 million doses to be made by JCR Pharmaceuticals Co and other local partners.

One cannot help wondering if the pace of vaccination has been so slow because Japanese business wanted a larger share of the profits. One also wonders about the trickle-down economics effect Japanese style. If the companies make more, they can donate more to political parties.

Guess once it is my turn (whenever this will be) only Astra and the local one are left.

By the time Japan puts the immunization system in order maybe even 2nd generation vaccines would be available, a little of bad luck or mass hysteria when a 99yo vaccinated person die from unrelated causes and it will be 3rd generation.

If you are more at risk from the vaccine than covid why bother?

Nobody in the target population is at more risk from the vaccine than from COVID, that argument is not real.

The real argument is that other vaccines appear to be safer than the AstraZeneca's for some of the population, but getting infected from COVID-19 still means the highest risk.

"Nobody in the target population is at more risk from the vaccine than from COVID, that argument is not real."

Who is the target population? I think you'll find the only/majority (in the 90percentile) people dying from Covid are those with secondary illnesses such as heart disease, followed by dementia and respiratory illness. Similar to influenza deaths but that had never been truly tracked in the past like Covid is now.

What is "not real" is the push to vaccinate and shut down the world when vaccinating high risk groups would be sufficient.

This push to vaccinate all is truly ludicrous! Vaccinate the most at risk and move on!

@Sanjinonosebleed: Ah, I see another person comparing this to Influenza. I don't dispute the majority of those dying have underlying health conditions, But the proof is now coming in hard data that these vaccines also prevent transmission, which if we are to resume a normal way of life is equally as important.

Shouldn't we all playing our part in that? The selfish few like yourself will only prolong these shutdowns of normal society. Toxic attitude.

The people that are being vaccinated, meaning not having a medical contraindication.

Healthy young people still have risk of complications or death from COVID infection, and this risk is much more significant than any risk from the vaccines. That still means you are wrong, there is nobody that has more risk from the vaccine than from the infection.

What is "not real" is the push to vaccinate and shut down the world when vaccinating high risk groups would be sufficient.

The "push" still means reducing the risk for everybody that is being vaccinated, people that understand scientific evidence can easily see how this is a very good benefit, science-deniers are simply looking for any excuse to minimize the risks from COVID and maximize the risk from vaccines but there is no information that support these mistaken views.

Anybody that can be vaccinated benefits from doing it, and since the vaccines are designed to be effective at a population level (and not 100% effective at the personal level) that still mean that people can vaccinate not only to lower their own risk but also the risks for others and to replace social distancing measures.

You guys can go ahead and have my vax.

AZ should be used on the +65 group.

There are new issues, many and some surprisingly high protein additives as well as problems with the vector snippets causing those ‘clots’ as result of overreacting immune response. Generally speaking, severe impurity or production process errors and problems. If nothing else is available it’s of course better than dying from corona, but in all other cases, garbage can recommendation.

With respect, may I suggest that you are a buffoon.

The AstraZeneca vaccine has been linked to only 309 clotting cases (56 deaths) out of 33,000,000 shots.

0.00017% chance of dying after having the AZ vaccine.

1.72% chance of dying after contracting OCVID in Japan. (12,497 deaths in 725,536 reported cases)

That suggests you are 10,000 times more likely to die from COVID than the AZ vaccine.

You may not like my argument but they are facts based on statistics. On what do you base your assertions?
