The Japanese really, really don't like being held to international standards, especially the really transparent ones.

Sumitomo Corp shareholders on Friday defeated a resolution...

The proposal...was supported by shareholders... "Resolution No. 5 was rejected..."

Now I'm confused.

Shareholders main purpose for investing in companies is to keep getting profits. I doubt that will change any day. Unless the government force them but that is just another pitfall.

It is confusingly worded but it means the proposal was put on the agenda by some shareholders (as opposed to management), then rejected in a vote by all shareholders.

These types of proposals are succeeding in other countries. Institutional shareholders are recognizing the threat climate change poses to their portfolio investments over the long term, so they are way more active in voting for these than they were just 5 years ago.

Good to see people rejecting the socialist climate change hoax.

Heh, the russians are still pushing the trope that it's a hoax?

They must not be getting the latest information inside Putin's information wall.
