"Fugitive former car executive Carlos Ghosn"

Really? I don't really think he is a fugitive.

-26 ( +20 / -46 )

no hostages, no forced confesions, no racism, no indefinite confinement, fast trials.

feels good to see a real justice system at work.

-14 ( +24 / -38 )

He sure was greedy to demand $15mill. Guess it came back to bite him.

24 ( +38 / -14 )

"Fugitive ", yes that's a fact!!! Only a crook does that!!!!

"demanded compensation of 15 million euros", yes that's a fact!!! He is a greedy and arrogant guy.

~Morality, he deserves what he went through~

stating that Ghosn did not have a valid employment agreement with the joint venture

Why did the company not give a valid agreement? Planned this situation from the beginning all along?

Goes to show, if you’re a gaijin working for a Japanese company, hire lawyers to review all contracts for any hidden agendas.

-6 ( +25 / -31 )

Ghosn is fighting a losing battle. When his money runs out, so does his luck,

21 ( +30 / -9 )

Stop overpaying CEOs.

33 ( +40 / -7 )

Oops .

16 ( +17 / -1 )

Funny that witnesses that would support him didn’t have a say first time around, wonder how the appeal will go.

-8 ( +9 / -17 )

@Scarce

Under the Japanese law he is a fugitive

21 ( +28 / -7 )

Really? I don't really think he is a fugitive.

What do you think he is?

16 ( +22 / -6 )

Stop overpaying CEOs.

I don't think ghosn will heed that advice

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Goes to show, if you’re a gaijin working for a Japanese company, hire lawyers to review all contracts for any hidden agendas.

At that level you should hire lawyers to review any and all contracts you sign, whether you are a racist or not

15 ( +25 / -10 )

After all, is he a con man ? Japanese prosecutors seem to be right.

15 ( +29 / -14 )

Do you notice how fast is it going?

Compare it with a similar case in Japan.

Kelly is been detained in solitary confinement for 130 days to end up with a 2 years trial that's is obscure and uncomfortable.

-14 ( +9 / -23 )

After all, is he a con man ?

That he is not. At least that's what I think with my limited knowledge of him.

Obama himself offered him a job so he must be one the very best at what he does

5 ( +11 / -6 )

This whole affair stinks to high heaven. Ghosn has always been a money grubbing, self-overpaid billionaire and the "justice" system here is tantamount to a gulag type incarceration center w/ no trial until a year or two later. Nissan also reeks of typical Japanese racist corruption. I hope the news about these lowest of the low will disappear like a fart.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I initially felt sorry for this guy. But he’s just a coward and let Gregg Kelly take the fall.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

For a guy who spent over 20 years in Japan, he was completely oblivious of Japanese customs and culture. If you want to save your butt, tell Japanese prosecutors what they only need to hear and make a deal. That’s what Saikawa did. Don’t f with Japanese prosecutors, they will destroy your life.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

and the "justice" system here is tantamount to a gulag type incarceration center w/ no trial until a year or two later.

Japan needs to reform their system. Update the 1970’s linoleum tile floors too.

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

People(Japanese corrupt businesses and politicians) have been let off for worse here..with a bow and a 'moshiwakegozaimasen deshita'..

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

His face looks like "What have I done?"

8 ( +8 / -0 )

the board member who had signed his employment contract at the joint venture on behalf of the car companies did not have the power to do so.

Ridiculous.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

@ Velius.

Not at all.

FYI never trust the news media or politicians..lots of lies to cover fingers j dirty money pies.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

in dirty money pies.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Ghosn is so screwed.

From the moment that more countries started taking a closer look at his situation, it was always going to be a loosing battle.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

Gee Ghosn defenders so inactive once non-Japanese justice takes Nissan's side

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Doesn’t that mean that he formally wasn’t not even employed? So he also cannot be officially paid at all , be fired , be accused and so on. Quite a very stinky gray zone case that whole thing.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Doesn’t that mean that he formally wasn’t not even employed? So he also cannot be officially paid at all , be fired , be accused and so on.

Japanese Injustice System apologists don't see the irony in that.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Japan should offer the Lebanese government huge foreign aid donations on the proviso that they return Ghosn.

Is he is truly inocent of all charges? Who knows. But he should have his day in court to explain himself.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

This is how it's done in Japan and so don't fight it. Ghosn chose to fight and look where he is now...

I rather prefer the Dutch justice. Makes much more sense to me.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

He would've had his day in the Japanese media saying sorry and that would've been it, all handled internally.

Doubt

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Good decision.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Japan should offer the Lebanese government huge foreign aid donations on the proviso that they return Ghosn.

That is called bribery. Besides, who needs Japanese aid?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Ghosn should have been the greatest Int'l tax adviser against all odds. That’s his vocation is not it? At this point, I am not even sure how he had spent his latter half days sitting as the king of the multinational company as a multinational citizen. Sure he got angry when comparing his wealth or Forbs ranking against other major automobile companies. Keep on appealing the verdict in Dutch. Don't forget French justice is also chasing you. This is a very good case study at Harvard MBA.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Japanese justice did not allow him even to meet his wife. Yeah. But who arranged his escape with a ex-US marine and his son? She did. Oops I almost forgot what his main Japanese lawyer was commenting a day after he run away

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Nissan is a big company, they have accountants and accounting bodies to do this job. Why is everyone attacking Carlos??! That's not fair.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

This guy is a top tier of Lebanese elites, so he won't be touched by Lebanon at all. His battle with Japan will take a legendary length. However, I am more interested in the fate of Nissan under Renault's control.

The French are extremely committed to keeping their assets worldwide, and they won't allow Nissan to cede back to Japan. The very reason why Japan has been successful at saving faces through the deportation of Taylors is due to American cordiality towards the Japanese LDP regime. If France offers a more favorable alternative than Japan at countering against China, for example, then the US will change shift its favorability. The French-Japanese battle for Nissan will take a very long time.
