On the subject of oil, was reading an article today in which one well respected think tank estimated that by 2040 we will be nearly over using petroleum and coal, but that it won't be soon enough to avoid some of the worst consequences of global warming. In fact, their point was that we won't get really serious about global warming until it is too late to stop the worst consequences of same.
