China slapped retaliatory tariffs of 25 percent on imports....

This is misleading. China ALREADY imposes tariffs on cars. Its tariff now is 40%. The US has recently started to impose tariffs, while China is hiking its existing ones.

Engaging in "free trade" with China has always been a distorted, lopsided proposition - the house always wins. So now, time for payback.
