LOL at the comments. Japanese University grad are landing great jobs with bright futures. While their American and westerns counterparts are deep in student debt, doing drugs and working at starbucks. LOL LOL.

i feel sorry for the graduates. Forced to wear those ghastly suits, bags, hairstyles and hobbling around in massive earthquake predicted places like Tokyo in stupid dangerous high heels. And that’s before finding a job.

If these companies think talent only comes in the form of newbs fresh out of school with no skills or experience, good luck.

Mass intake of workers just complicates a business, need someone now?, have to wait. Want someone with international education, experience? Sorry the rest of the world are on a different time scale. Next these mass movements of workers every April breaking up families, having adults live in dormitories, 1 LDK mansions under strict rules. It's not rocket science unless your in a JAXA mansion. It on first seeing, workers bussed together to the work place then bussed home to eat together was bizarre to say the least. The last thing I want is socialising with people I see everyday. But this move is a start to modernising Japan's archaic work place culture. A small step might lead to a lunge.

Uni's are afraid that companies would realise they might be better recruiting after high school rather than waiting till after Uni is done LOL!!!

But universities have expressed concern that allowing recruitment activities throughout the year will make it hard for students to concentrate on their schoolwork.

God, at least pretend that you are educating adults at your universities....this is like admitting that you keep them at a grade school level, regarding independence.

I find it strange that there is no open recruitment all the time. That's how it works almost everywhere else. It actually benefits the students a lot if they can get work experience during studies - it makes it easier to get a job in the future and see what is worthwhile to study.

this tight labor market is benefiting me already. my company just started allowing all employees to work from home twice a week. and microsoft yesterday announced a 4-day work week. hopefully all these benefits will trickle down to many other firms.

@Yubaru - You know little of Japanese university life if you think these students should be able to manage their time!

I’m quite sure Disillusioned’s statement is sarcasm aimed at pointing out that fact. Japanese universities are like a day care center for children in their late teens and twenties. Most choose subjects that are the easiest for them and never take a job in the field. I know one girl who studies child psychology for four years. She now works as a secretary to the sakes department at a plastics factory.

This coming on the heals of another "survey" stating that firms are not looking at hiring full time staff, outside of women and foreigners.

The mixed messages they are sending are strange. Far too many contradictions.

SaikoPhysco exactly. Its not just about changing the timeframes they hold the interviews, its about how they interview, its about what they offer (how about hiring kids who studied in the field that you are hiring for?)

University, concentrate, schoolwork? These people are young adults and should be able to manage their time without effecting their studies.

You know little of Japanese university life if you think these students should be able to manage their time!

Sad fact, for far too many, Japanese university life is just a 4 year break from reality!

University, concentrate, schoolwork? These people are young adults and should be able to manage their time without effecting their studies. However, nothing will change in any major way. This is Japan after all.

What is the use of recruiting "talent" when so few Japanese companies actually take advantage of talent itself. Instead they pound their new recruits into worker drones. Talent... to these companies talent equals someone that will do exactly what they say and work 24/7.
