Fukushima product count for how many percent of those exports? Japan will go to WTO if any country want to refuse product from Fukushima.

Wait, we actually export timber?! We usually import more than 90% of wood from outside. Interesting to see that things are improving a bit.

Is ridiculous that we are even importing wood because of how much trees we have but aren't touching it. The trees are growing out of control with no one managing them which in return releasing way too much pollen and causing forest fires.

That is not how it works Hiro-sama

Before exporting agricultural products, Japan should do something to increase its food self-sufficiency rate, which now stands at the alarming 39%.

In the event of drastic climate change and global crop failures, no country would sell you food while leaving their own people starving.

Numbers speak for themselves! Very positive for Japanese farmers!! Well done!

It's great that some innovative industries are working hard to consolidate their businesses but most of the exports are high-end products with niche markets. Good Luck to them.

However not going to be enough potential growth to have any substantial impact on the economy.

Currently agricultural imports alone are 6 fold the exports. Broken down in food terms it's probably greater.

More needs to be done to create sustainable agricultural enterprises for domestic use that frees up the noose of reliance on other countries.

The national government has shown little interest in reforming the agriculture sector in a realistic manner that is necessary for Japan's future independent growth. Why? Because it only looks as far as the next election.

This article - while positive - is just a speck in an economy with a gdp of ¥500 trillion

Japan will go to WTO if any country want to refuse product from Fukushima.

Where have you been? WTO already ruled that countries can ban food from Fukushima and neighboring prefectures indefinitely.

South Korea wins WTO appeal on Fukushima seafood ban

April 12, 2019 05:55 JSTUpdated on April 12, 2019 12:38 JST

GENEVA -- The World Trade Organization has upheld South Korean's ban on seafood from areas affected by Japan's 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, overturning a lower panel's ruling last year.

BTW, countries are preparing to impose a total ban on import of Japanese seafood if TEPCO goes ahead with its plan to dump radioactive water off Fukushima site as that would contaminate all of Japan's waters.

Really promising news.

Japan has the potential to become the food basket of Asia.

Japan has the potential to become the food basket of Asia.

With the small % of land suitable for agriculture, declining farmer ranks & self sufficiency rate under 40% , thats one bold statement.

Holy crap, very nice.

Japan is truly back!
