It's obvious that they will cut output slowly but further.

Indeed, for Russia it's a no-brainer. They can make more money at a higher price while exporting less.

On one hand Ueda does everything to create inflation on the other hand the government give subsidies to alleviate the consequences… At the end of the day we will end up with a mix of higher inflation and higher taxes!

The savings in fuel costs compared to the UK are immediately wiped out the second you go onto a motorway here - the tolls are ridiculously expensive, for motorways that are often nothing more than a dual carriageway. You have no choice but to use them when trying to cover any distance because all other roads have traffic lights every 100 meters.

There is NO other ways around it, but Toyota Honda and Nissan still think that combustion engines will sell and so they continue to SHOVE down the consumers throats. Until we reverse the situation they are not going to change.

Bizarrely, bottled water is even more expensive! Use a vending machine? Over 200¥ a liter. Often much more. I’ve seen “boutique” water in Tokyo at 500¥ for 500ml.

Honestly, good, where I live it's just people driving around all day ruining the environment. I don't want them to have to suffer financially of course but some type of deterrent so they think twice before driving I think is a very good thing in 2023.

I ride my bike all the time, even when I don't feel like it, I take the car to do groceries or when absolutely required. I think more people should be doing this personally.

...the other day a plumber came to my house to do some work, he drove back to his home to get parts about 5 times, it was ridiculous, this might force him to actually plan the job.

Oh like the UK doesn't have hidden extras, ULEZ mean anything? £12 a day to drive in London and they just expanded it!

The numbers Sales tax 10% and 53 yen per liter are the taxes on gas here. That’s amazing. 20 liters @185.60 = 3,712 yen and taxes make up 1,431 yen 39% of the price is taxes. What needs to change is easy to know. And on top of that the government should be negotiating better prices and reducing tariffs which we don’t even see.

I can understand why locals are up in arms about this increase. Being a frequent visitor to Japan for the last 20 years, fuel prices is always cheap compared to the UK. A litre of 'regular' at the reported price is a little over a £1 at the current exchange rate, it's currently around £1.55 a litre in the UK. Last winter I was paying £1.80 per litre. It's bad but it could be a lot worse...

No, it’s not. It used to be ¥250 for £1 back in 2008 or so. The current ¥180 is not that bad at all.

Not a great savings in Japan.

A Nissan leaf 60kWh will take 1 hour on rapid charge in a public charging station!

At ¥55 per minute so to fully charged a 60kWh Leaf will cost ¥3,300 and the max distance if you are lucky will be 340km.

My 10 year old Prius gets in average 22km/L, I just filled up at a self service at ¥175/L ( remember ¥185 is average that includes full service stations at a far higher price).

So ¥3,300 is around 18L even at ¥185 that is still 17L.

At 22km/L I can travel between 374Km and 396km for that same ¥3,300 and not need to wait an hour to charge my car.

The only savings may be if you charge at home which takes several hours, but remember this will increase your home electrical bill over the different price levels to the top tier if ¥41kWH charge which will then apply to you entire house use.

The average K-car gets around 27~28km/L and are terrible on the highway!

A Prius will get the same if not better without the tiny size and with far better safety especially on highways where they get even better fuel economy!

Defeating Russian terrorism is more important than gas prices.

The easy solution tried and tested is to print more money and subsidise the gasoline so we can all enjoy. Your kids will pay back that loan. They wont mind because they dont know.

Just don't have any sort of an accident in a Kei car...you,ll be lucky if you can walk away with just an injury. Whilst cheap to run they are deathtraps on wheels....hence why they,d never pass safety standards in the western world and are only sold in Japan. Hybrids are a way to go.

I don’t commute on highways, only pleasure jaunts, not an issue.

Being a recent model vehicle,I purposefully chose a model with a stronger chassis (I’m not advertising the make) It’s a well known one though.

The biggest dangers, in town are distracted drivers and the culprit is the mobile phone.

Don't forget you get 'Kotsuhi' in Japan, whereas I have a 10 mile (16km) drive into work each day. I recall receiving housing benefit too from work. Swings and roundabouts my friend. All I know is Japan was cheap when we was there in July. Now I can't even buy a Costa without feeling ripped off. It fair to say cost of living in the UK is ridiculous!
