The postal service unit is considering a 10 percent cut in charges for express mail in return for discontinuing Saturday mail service.

Express mail might get cheaper, but the price of the regular mail that ordinary people use every day has skyrocketed: a postcard was 50 yen and is now 62, a 24% increase. (Will it go up another 1 or 2 yen when the consumption tax rises?)

I like the postal system here, except for the Kampo sales people.

If you order standard shipping with Amazon, it comes in one day. Do not need prime.

Sending packages tru the post office has become expensive and troublesome, I sometimes pay more for the package than the contents.

Oh good, the PO will stop delivering unnecessary mailers and flyers to my house on the weekend now.

You will now receive more on Monday....

Waste of gas and labor, that.

Yes, I think it's going up to Y63 for a postcard. Other prices will also increase, but I forget the amounts.

The main reason for this change is to increase profits, not a labour shortage.

Delivery on Saturday could be terminated possibly next year and it will be available only on weekdays.

The panel also proposed that delivery for standard mail the day after posting be ended.

I actually think it's a good thing. JP have been over-servicing their clients for far too long. Entitlement mentality.

I remember thinking how unusual Saturday mail delivery was when I first came here. Amazing overservicing of the people. Economic and demographic reality have caught up....

Postal systems worldwide suffering with rise of electronic media.  Still, there is always Kuro Nekko.

That's a shame. I hope there are no job losses as a result.
