Nissan and Mitsubishi have no choice. Renault is the majority shareholder of Nissan. They have projects together that will keep tied at the hip for decades to come. The merger doesn't directly involve any of the J-companies. If they want get in on it then they will have the opportunity at a later date, but they shouldn't expect to be treated as an equal in this merger. They are not.

I predict Nissan will go running to the J-government crying that it isn't fair for us Japanese. The J-government will probably propose to buy shares in the company, but it won't change the situation. It just means the Renault will never get the majority share or 50% for that matter. The J-government will have no choice, but to claim the automobile industry a national treasure and expel all the foreign devils! LOL!

Why would Nissan and Mitsubishi discuss the merger proposal?

This proposal is between Renault and Fiat-Chrysler, doesn't involve Nissan and Mitsubishi.

It’s the difference between a merger and al alliance.
