your comparing apples & oranges, this is about FREIGHT shipping not postal services, not the same thing

I prefer using an APO on any US base here in Japan, way cheaper than UPS, etc...I love the US military!

It's funny but shipping from Japan to Canada and the U.S. with EMS, UPS or FedEx is cheaper then sending to Japan from the U.S. and WAY cheaper than from Canada to Japan. Go figure...

For US Postal (USPS) you can just weigh the package at home, enter the zip code and print/pay for the shipping label online. =maybe five minutes to do a package. (tape the printout on the package or pay for the stickers to print on). I would expect UPS/others to have a similar option.
Bigger shippers have contracts and get huge discounts with less security. Smaller unknown shippers will get their parcels x-rayed multiple times (beware of possible x-ray shipment damage)

Every time I'm home and try to ship something back I try the UPS store. It's always double the price of the Post Office.

Well, I'm here in East Africa and I would LOVE to see UPS bring this service to the newly formed East African Community (EAC - Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi). When will they realize that Africa's the future and trade is rapidly increasing between Asia & Africa. UPS, please get in the game or lose out big time.

good luck with this the TSA will slow you down & if UPS starts shipping lots of small shpts by ocean the paper work & time lines for TSA security requirements will set them up for the possiblilty of substanial fines for non-compliance. I seriously doubt they can shave much if any time off for anyone who already ships stuff LCL.
If they are looking to ship some stuff that typically had gone by airfreight they might have some success

Way to go UPS, I hope I can use your service and it won't cost an arm and a leg, and will get their on time!
