More tariffs, more expensive. It seems they would have to pay much more for cars than they paid.

Indeed....just like with all the other MAGA voters who are now out of a job, the MAGA aito workers will experience some REAL buyer's remorse...as they apply for their new jobs at McDonalds...

A good leader has long term vision and is not afraid of prices going up. He will lead the people to make sacrifices for the good of U.S. manufacturing and trade. Unfortunately, the term is only four years. To carry out this endeavor requires a longer period of time.

The CEO of Ford has said repeatedly that Trump's increased taxes will accomplish the opposite of what he claims to want to achieve. Should we be surprised that a "businessman" who only knows how to con people and/or declare bankruptcy is working against America's interests?

Anyone who's been in the US recently would notice the only 'American' cars are SUV's and pick up trucks. All the other cars are Japanese, Korean, German. Ford/GM/Chrysler have given up making cars most people drive. So the industry is already moribund.

You can replace “could” with “will”.

Your leader has bankrupt 4 casinos in the past, what a great vision he has....

Most do not understand that Trump wants Mexico and Canada to unify their tariff policy with the US in order to strengthen the USMCA trade agreement.

Mexico is doing so now, and the idea is that this will keep other countries from conducting a tariff arbitrage in North America. Let's see how Canada behaves, this is their chance for a US tariff offramp.

Trump doesn’t care about collateral damage

The caveat which the media conveniently ignores ; it penalises those companies that outsource parts of their manufacturing processes outside the US. The solution is then for the companies for look for ways to do more in the US, instead of just pointing the finger at "tariffs".

@zulander Good luck! Enjoy your higher prices whether it's through tariffs imposed on imports or higher priced domestic products. My bet is on the former. How many people who you know want to work on a factory assembly line?

No surprise, he's been installed as an artificial counterpart, so that they can continue to strangle all developed economies and further globally de-industrialize according to their green agenda.

ALL the country industry will suffer a lot of because of Trump's stupidity..

Trump's just doing what other countries do, especially China regarding autos, almost nobody imports into China.

It's called reciprocity, most US voters approve, especially union and working-class voters who want job protection.

EU has already lowered their auto tariffs by 75% to match US tariff rates, so DJT policy seems to be working

He's your leader. My leader stays out of trouble and minds his own business. Ukraine surrendering will have no impact on Taiwan because we are level headed and prefer peace and not adding fuel to the fire by sending weapons.

Every serious businessperson has had failures, that's the nature of risk, markets and moving fast. If you're not failing, you're not trying hard enough etc.

Automotive market rapidly changing, companies not moving fast enough, like Nissan, in big trouble, while the aggressive disruptors and innovators less so.

Tariffs relate to market access, so auto companies will need sound plans to succeed in US market by producing in US, or possibly Mexico and Canada depending on how it all shakes out = do they align with DJT on tariffs?

Everyone is collateral damage in trump’s world except dictators and the wealthy.

America is officially a kakistocracy.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Naw, America's just protecting its interests for a change.

If China can charge high auto tariffs, why not the US? Who can argue reciprocity is somehow unfair or evil.

Besides, EU cut its auto tariffs this year 75% to match the US due to DJT = Consumers Benefit with LOWER Prices!

Government of the people,

By the billionaires,

For the billionaires.

America voted for this chaos and is about to get more than could possibly be imagined. It's shameful we have a convicted felon and his bozo sidekick running what can only be seen as a three-ring circus by treating staunch allies and respected heads of state shabbily and turning their backs on democracy. There are going to be serious repercussions.

Repercussions as follows, US will ensure its interests being protected regarding trade. Shameful is history of trade abuse US has suffered at hands of its 'friends'.

Nothing shameful about Reciprocal/Reciprocity= Fairness

Who is going to be the first trillionaire?

Ultimately you do what you earn a profit doing, in the context of whatever crap governments dump on you.

US automakers will have to limit production to what they can sell at higher prices, or shutter production for a period.

The system works at the moment for everyone but Trump. Let the prices rocket and the damage hit consumers. Eventually Trump will become unpopular. He will most likely declare victory and change tack. If not, just throttle back everything for the period of his term in office and mothball production. It's a chance to clean house and audit everything. Restart production when the economic landscape permits.

Suddenly, right wingers aren’t afraid of prices going up? Oh but it’s because it’s under Trump now, and they’ll follow along with whatever the Dear Leader says. Gotta love the consistency.
