If the world, let alone Japan, fined U.S. airlines for THEIR delays and all other miserable, pathetic services, then the U.S. economy would catapult the country back to stone-age!

US airlines ARE fined for delays all the time. $750K, $450K, for 4 hrs and 7 hrs stuck in the plane on the ground. The reasons don't matter.

One fine was for $22M. https://www.travelpulse.com/news/airlines/american-airlines-fined-22-million-by-department-of-justice.html

lol You are in extreme danger of ruffling some American feathers here who came to find a reason to rag on JAL. I am American and sponsor your message.

4 hours is a long time . . . but it is "better to be safe than sorry".

What does that have to do with safety? They're supposed to let them off the plane but staff didn't show up.

There was a series of studies that came out of the University of Nagoya about 10-15 years ago that identified the potential dangers of exiting an airplane with fewer than 8 people bowing to you. It's a worthwhile read if you can find it.

My flights on Delta over the past couple of years have had better service than on JAL.

Japan (and it's apologists) should stop blaming it's failures on the USA.

Meanwhile, TSA......

I just searched the Japanese press for reports in January and May about these delays — not a one. Thank you to the free press outside Japan for keeping us informed.

This is troubling... I wont fly JAL to/from the US now, as their pilots will be under additional stress to take off on time, perhaps taking short-cuts in pre-checks, and missing something that leads to a crash. Hence why I wont fly with them to/from the US now for at least the next year.
