The ILA is the dumbest union of all. European and Asian ports embraced automation three decades ago and the ILA is still fighting it. And with no increase in productivity, the ILA is demanding a 77% pay raise. The ILA cause the port in Portland, Oregon to lose shipping traffic because the ILA refused to tolerate the electrician's union having one job plugging in refrigerated containers. The ILA has a history of organized crime (look at the full patch Hells Angels working as longshoremen at the port in Vancouver, BC). If they go through with this strike, the lasting message will be that robots don't go on strike and the ILA is not a serious partner in negotiations.
