Some of those programs had crazy ideas, but if the craziest 20% were removed, the other 80% were good for the company, customers, communities and our nation. We are stronger together.

No program is perfect, but ditching the entire thing is unfortunate.

If there are 2 people with identical capabilities competing for a position, giving the person from a minority group a chance often helps an entire community.

While I look forward to

one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. - MLK

Sure, things are better than in the 1960s, but there are still lots of people who don't feel like this is the nation where they live. As a nation, we have more work to do.

It isn't just our different skin colors, but our different lifestyle choices that need this protection. If we were all the same, that would be a really boring and sad world.

DEI/Diversity it just a practice to hire people based non-meritocracy hiring quota, it effect business cost.

Trumps various promises "to DO something " seem mostly about dismantling/leaving projects and organisations such that US wont have to "DO" anything.

"Doing something " usually involves a positive action.

Not doing something is not the same.

Equality is a human right, a virtue, well worth fighting for. Equity is garbage and well worth fighting to put into the dustbin of stupid ideas.

Proxy...arent "equality " and "equity " two different words ?

I have "equity " in my home....it is worth more than I owe.

@GuruMick

Indeed they are! Unfortunately far too many people do not understand the difference. The "E" in DEI stands for equity which entails taking from people who worked hard to get ahead and giving it to folks who do not merit it. It both insentivises slackers to do less and disinsentivises hard work; arriving on time with a good attitude and a willingness to learn.

If these companies really believed in this "good cause" they wouldn't have scaled down or stopped the initiatives. Were they merely forced to do it in the first place?

Fantastic news. Rolling back the woke-industrial complex at record speed! Promises made, promises kept.

Yeah, that system that ONLY benefitted white males for centuries. That one. It's what they're planning on returning to now. Most of the ideals pitched by the Founding Fathers, et al. was just talk anyway. Pardon convicted seditionists and white supremacists but whine about trying to make the playing field more equal.

@Mocheake

Sure sure, whatever you say.

Question: Which U.S. companies are pulling back on diversity initiatives?

Answer: Not enough.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

These DEI programs were discriminative, divisive, and a waste of time and money.

Now a merit based system is becoming the norm. Socialism and woke programs are out the door.

Which U.S. companies are pulling back on diversity initiatives?

I.e., which companies are not hiring based on who is most qualified.

Great rebuttal. Show me where I am mistaken.

Which U.S. companies are pulling back on diversity initiatives?

The smart ones.

It's actually really refreshing to see COMMON SENSE come back into the mainstream. Scaling back this DEI nonsense is a MUCH-NEEDED step toward meritocracy and away from divisive, identity-obsessed policies of the Far Left, perpetually outraged Uber "Progressives" that undermine workplace competence and unity. Companies should continue to focus on hiring the BEST PERSON for the job, not checking boxes to appease woke mobs.

Equality of opportunity, not outcome, is what actually builds a strong, fair society - something the aforementioned conveniently forgot in their crusade to divide us further.

So meritocracy benefitted "white males"? Sure, if you ignore the millions of people from all backgrounds who've succeeded through hard work instead of whining about oppression.

Oh, and as for your "equal playing field," it’s funny how that always just means rigging the game for those who shriek the loudest.

Sorry the real problem isn't the system; it's that toxic VICTIM MINDSET that blames everyone else for personal failures.

I think equity in this situation means "the quality of being fair and impartial". That sounds reasonable to me.

While it's not a company, the Supreme Court is an interesting example. You could argue that there are very few things that say "American success story" than becoming a justice of SCOTUS. Well, until recently, with beer loving frat boy, Little Miss Gilead, and their merry friends, but I digress.

I just did some Googling. The percentage of Americans who identify as "black / African American" is around 14 per cent.

There have been a total of 116 Supreme Court justices to date.

If we were to assume that merit is the only prerequisite to get on the Supreme Court, and that a proportionate number of black justices would have been confirmed to the court, we'd be looking at 14 percent of 116, which is around 16. There have been three: Thurgood Marshall, Clarence "Corrupt" Thomas, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

So, yeah. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Apple is not with it's 160,000 American employees.

Trump continues to drain the swamp

Trump is firing thousands of workers on who they voted for rather than how good they are at their job.

He doesn't care about who is the best man for the job.

Proper woke.

@albaleo

No. What you describe is equality and that is the furthest from equity that one can get.

The far left has done a good job of confusing the 2 words and tricking you.

Blind auditions for a symphony were great and really were about creating equality where musicianship was judged on merit. But that is not DEI. Equity is giving the 1st violin slot to somebody based on their identity, and banning other people with the wrong identity from even trying out and not hiring capable people based on merit. The quality of the product suffers, people feel ripped off when they go to a symphony so stop going and everything just falls to rot.

There is really not a difference in performance between an "A student" and a "B student" but there certainly is between an "A+ student" and a "C- student"

Equity has been forcing the hiring of "C- students" for roles that require "A+ students."

He is?!?!?

I'm reading through this article and trying to see where it says Trump is firing Walmart, Apple, McDonald's, Harley Davidson, and Jack Daniel's workers.

Newsflash--it doesn't work that way in the USA.

Or anywhere else in the world.

I think someone has been watching the incel whisperer, Jordan Henderson or whatever his name is.

@Jimizo

Okay, please explain the difference between the concepts of equality and equity and how they are applied.

What dictionary are you using?
