Amy Johnson, Amelia Earhart... it shouldn't come as a total shock that women can fly.

HUH?! Women have always flown planes ,and they have proven that they're at least as good as we, the men. My ex flight instructor was a national champion of aerobatics, and incidentally she was female. She was extremely good, and thought me so much I can't ever be thankful enough. I feel priviledged enough to have flown with her, and to have her do a complete show with me in the cockpit, this is an experience one can't come by easily... Whoever denies that females can't fly is an idiot, plain and simple.

It shouldn't even be an issue. Ridiculous that it is.

On the U.S. carriers I am seeing more and more female pilots on my flights to the U.S. in recent years. These flights were on United (listed in the article). Good for them. As Maria said this should not even be an issue and in the U.S. (from what I have heard) airlines are actually seeking qualified women to fly.

When I am a passenger I do not care if the pilot is male, female, white, black, asian....whatever. I just want the best qualified person flying the plane and I am quite sure that gender does not play a role in qualifying pilots.

oh come on... Women flying ? Really ? This is news ? Well, I guess the airline kitted the cockpit out with pink dice hanging from the windshield mirror , and pink kitty chan decor everywhere too (being sarcastic)

The fact that very few women choose to be pilots is none of my business.

Is this your way of saying that you condone the status quo but by making it sound like women are to blame?

I look forward to hearing your views why women choose not to take senior positions in companies, the government and the civil service.
