'I’ll kill you!' says Japanese schoolgirl when convenience store won’t let her use toilet

Around midnight on April 11, a convenience store manager in the town of Nakama, Fukuoka Prefecture, says what appeared to be a biker gang had gathered in front of his shop. One after another, they came into the store to use the toilet, and apparently the manager came to the conclusion that they were just there to make a pit stop, with no interest in shopping.

Not wanting to turn his store into a biker lounge for the rest of the night, the manager decided to stop offering use of the toilet and locked the door, However, a 16-year-old high school girl who was with the group didn’t take kindly to his decision. When she found the toilet door locked sometime around 12:30 a.m., she became furious at the manager, shouting “Hurry up and let me into the damn toilet!” and “I’ll kill you!”

Instead of reaching for the toilet key, though, the manager reached for the phone and called the police. By the time officers were on site, the girl and her companions had left, but convenience stores have security cameras. Ordinarily they’re there as precautions against shoplifters and robbers, but they’re just as useful for recording evidence against people yelling death threats, and investigators were able to use the recorded video to identify the girl, who was arrested for attempted forced coercion on April 18, one week after the incident took place. “There is no mistake” she said in regard to the accusations.

In addition, the store’s toilet was damaged around the time of the girl’s outburst, and the police are investigating whether or not this was an intentional act of vandalism.

The incident serves as a reminder that while many convenience stores in Japan have toilets for customer use, such access is granted on a voluntary basis. It’s not unusual for stores in bar districts or other areas with an excessive number of people walking around with full bladders to reserve their toilets for employees only, and if a store does allow you to use theirs, good manners dictate you should buy something, even if it’s just a bottle of water or a pack of gum. Oh, and it also serves as a reminder that saying you’re going to kill someone on camera is never a good idea.

The exact legal punishment the girl faces remains unclear, but in any case, this likely isn’t going to help the cause of that other city in Japan that wants to turn their convenience store toilet into public facilities.

Sometimes you just really need to go for a tom tit.

Maybe this Girl watched too much Pinky Violence Movies.

The effects of too much anime and not enough Juku perhaps?

Maybe she had chronic diarrhea?

arrested for attempted forced coercion

Oddly redundant. An overly literal translation perhaps?

what a crappy situation

What kind of sissy motorcycle gang has has to stop somewhere to use the potty on an outing?

What's wrong with behind the dumpster out back?

The way this gang sounds, they probably even washed their hands thoroughly after finishing.

a Japanese motorcycle gang.

The way this gang sounds, they probably even washed their hands thoroughly after finishing.

Of course. These guys are not exactly the hell's angels

The kind of guys who, when they are in the middle of taking a shower and they have to pee, they get out and dry off to go in the potty. Then they get back in and finish their shower.

Kids in Japan use "kill" or "die" too easily, it is a matter of time some get into trouble like this.

Possibly that the manager let an undetermined number of people use the toilet but then cut her off may have raised some indignation... and if everyone who, in the heat of anger, shouted "I'm gonna kill you ya little..." were arrested, no end of older sisters and brothers would have convictions on their records. 'Anger born hyperbole' and 'serious intent' are very different things and I hope whoever has to make a decision in this case has their head on straight... and, given that the toilet was 'locked' at the time of the girl's physiological need-based outrage, responsibility there cannot be known. But the one thing that can be celebrated is a country where this is 'national news'...

If you can't use the conveniences, then it's more of an inconvenience store.

Sounds like a rough neighborhood.

A little tricycle gang using the little boys room nicely, 1 by 1.

And gaggles of 16 year old high school girls kicking it at 12:30 am, looking for powder rooms.

And of course, in Japanese style, wait till all the thugs use and abuse said toilet. But when they stop, wait for the little school girl to come in, and make an example out of her.

Then, she threatens to kill the worker.

This entire story seems fictitious, right out of a manga book.

More like wrong time of the month judging by her response. PMT/PMS is a real thing.

Obviously the manager was not going to take any more of their crap.

Of course, they are not like some westerners who like to do their physiological needs anywhere without caring about other people.

Charge to owner for discrimination and failing to help a young girl in distress.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Yes but perhaps the girl was going to purchase something after she used the toilet .

Or should she stand in line at the checkout with a bursting bladder to purchase a pack of gum before using the toilet.

I would say the manager was a control freak.

And probably will just cause more problems for himself in the future.

If I had some logs trying mightily to force their way out for a splash down the river, I might have uttered the same thing. Nothing like a stinky soiled brown pair of shorts on a long ride. Free this poor child! The embarrassment alone may be pain enough.

Those biker's gang should release right into the gasoline tank. Extra miles for them and eternal peace for all of us.

Gotta love Japan. Disciplined, efficient, reliable, no fuss and no putting up with anti social behavior. In my country teen gangs are terrifying.

“*Their country, their rules, …” ad nauseum. *? *- Must be a weekend with @TokyoLiving 12:24pm *(again) **trying to leave an unchecked, ‘upper decker’ here, attempting to turn his/her nose from other ‘westerners’.

Everyone here in Japan (or yourself previously in Korea) has experienced some kentaro or another, taking the piss out of everyone’s well-heeled commute with a convenient squat and/or drain outside the konbini, in the street or alleyway or along the roadside. -

I'm not sure. Is this actually a "gang"?

I love living in a country where such a story makes headlines. In my home country headline news usually includes a body count.

LOL...Back in the early 1960s I drove from Tokyo to Oita, along the way I saw a gazillion or so Japanese men, mostly truck drivers, relieving themselves on the roadside. They at least had the decency to turn their backs to the road.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Of course, they are not like some westerners who like to do their physiological needs anywhere without caring about other people.

And just how many westerners have you seen doing that? Or do you just follow any westerner around until they have to relieve themselves?
