Police in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of blackmail after he sent threatening messages to a 29-year-old female acquaintance on the messaging app Line.

The suspect, identified as Hikari Miwa, is an instructor known in the media as “Yankii teacher" and has written a book and appeared on various television programs, Kyodo News reported. The term "Yankii" refers to a members of a Japanese delinquent subculture.

According to the warrant, Miwa threatened the woman by posting comments such as “I’ll take you to hell” on Line. The victim continued to receive unsettling messages from April 15, 2021 to May 12, 2022. Miwa also called her “a hypocrite” and said he would “always harbor resentment toward her.”

Police said Miwa, who was arrested on Monday, has denied the allegation and quoted him as saying, “This was just an extension of our fighting, and I had no intention of really threatening her.”

Miwa is currently employed at Hyogo Prefectural Tatsunokita High School in Tatsuno City. In 2020, he was suspended by the prefectural board of education after issues of corporal punishment at another prefectural high school’s judo club came to light.

Because the media labelling someone as “Yankii teacher" is okay?

Miwa threatened the woman by posting comments such as “I’ll take you to hell” on Line.

I personally would have responded with "Itterashaii"

I wonder if she thought about blocking this guy on Line? It's not that

difficult to do. Why continue to receive messages from the guy?

" “This was just an extension of our fighting, and I had no intention of really threatening her.”

Your so called extension of fighting is what a lot of discussing people say in an attempt to manipulate, however this line of thinking is not only ignorant and evil but an obvious sick minded

...................................................................dare I say person.

This is more concerning for me -

In 2020, he was suspended by the prefectural board of education after issues of corporal punishment at another prefectural high school’s judo club came to light.

What's he doing teaching?

A replica-relic of the Showa era.

This is where we live.

We use Line daily. First permission is required to connect with one another. People can be blocked. Why didn't she block him for more than one year?

Hikari Miwa

Isn't that two female names?

"Yankii teacher"

What does that even mean?

He dyes his hair cute colors?

He rides a really really loud motor scooter?

He slurs his R's and makes wacky faces?

He spits and sits awkwardly?

His pants are wider than his arm wingspan?

If anything, blame the BOE for hiring, little Hikari Miwa.

I hope I’m not womansplaining here, but yankiii is a kind of slang for - depending on your country - a hick, a towny, a bogun, a scally, a chav etc. Just saying as it seemed to cause some confusion.

Her reply : I go there everyday.............EVERYDAY! (while maintaining a constant death stare)

To the people saying, "Why didn't she just block him?":

Because he knows her in real life. And for those of us with experience, when you've got someone you know in real life seriously threatening you, sometimes doing something that seems as simple as "blocking" them on social media can escalate to them instead coming to find you in person. And "threatening" you in person, say, at your house.

It would be one thing if he was some random person who didn't know her. Then sure, maybe she could have just blocked him. But in the end, it seems to me she put her own physical safety first (smart thing to do - let him get out his threats online vs in person), and ended up having the digital proof of his threats on LINE by not blocking.
