10 Keio Univ students face charges for streaking through station

Charges of public indecency were filed Tuesday against 10 first-year Keio University students after the group was caught filming themselves streaking through Hiyoshi Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line in Yokohama last month.

According to police, nine male students streaked naked through the ticket gates to a nearby restroom while one female student video taped the run during the early morning hours of Sept 20. The trains had not yet begun running and there were few passengers in the station at the time, but a passerby witnessed the incident. There were no station employees near the ticket gates at the time.

The 10 students were reportedly members of the Keio advertising club and had been drinking at a student's home nearby when the group decided to "make some memories of their first summer at university," according to one. The male students not only streaked through the station, but reportedly walked around the area in paper underwear. A witness to the incident notified police.

Keio University on Tuesday apologized for the students' behavior and said it would punish them accordingly.

hahahaha... awesome. Can't wait to see it on YouTube.

Best story I've read all week so far.

I wonder how many J-cops it took to apprehend or identify these students? Probably a slap on the wrist is all they deserve.

Waste of money to go after these kids. Japanese are way too uptight. That's why they have public baths, taxi drivers who piss where ever they want, and police men who strip down when they drink. (been witness to this last one 4 times in the last 10 years.) So let's go after some kids who were having some harmless fun.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They show top 'talento' doing these kinds of things all the time during prime time, and apparently it is hilarious. Where do you think these students got their influence from? Double standard to say the least!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Harmless fun, should be a slap on the wrist for the kids. They do worse stuff on TV.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It'll certainly be a slap, though whether on the wrist or some other organ is yet to be determined.

It happened last month, where is the youtube video?

I've read countless stories that should be in the crime section, and now this one which should not be in the crime section. How about entertainment?

Too many!

I'm sure this took priority over some Yakuza gun-smuggling or extortion cases...

"Sorry to tell you, we've had some more important criminal cases come up... No, not the usual bicycle parking ticket stuff, but kids streaking through a train station... You're off the hook now, be free Mr.Yamaguchi and your underworld syndicate crime family friends and remember to make those police protection money pay-offs on time, next time...!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Give the kids a break, those are memories and fun for a lifetime, its college.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good on them! That's a nice story. Just a shame there were no female students among them - just the camerawoman! Lets hope they don't get punished, but Japan being Japan they will probably get some serious punishment.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder if the passerby that complained has ever been to an onsen? What is his/her problem? I hope they dont get in any real trouble for this. As our friend from SMAP would say; Whats wrong with being naked? PLUS, they must be confident young guys to have allowed a female student to film them do it. Hats off to them I say.

In light of all the crimes occuring day in and day outI think this is fantastic : )

The cops need to lighten up. Many universities around the world have a tradition of pulling such pranks. Indeed, the good ones take pride in providing the police with the details in advance (the old "catch me if you can mentality"). I can think of the example in my home town where the local university (an internationally-recognized institution) would basically hold the city to ransom every year during "Bush Week," doing stunts such as hijacking the local TV news, changing embassy flags (Iran - Iraq during the war between the countries) and generally raising hell. They also used to have a running competition with my alma mater (well my undergraduate school), RMC Duntroon.

Compared to such actions, however, doing a "nature jog" through the local train station is a bit lame. On the other hand, I hope all the students in question are studying law (police tend to take a kinder view regarding law students because a record will destroy a career).

Anyway, I hope this little stunt breeds a sense of competition. Come on Waseda, show us what you can do.

thebottomline is absolutely right, there are countless "talento" doing similar things for "fun" on TV. or how about that moron dude that always jumps around in his undies and everybody is amazed how funny he is... give them a small fine and let them enjoy their most stupid and beautiful years. they're gonna soon transform into the depressed salary man on Yamanote

Go Keio boys! Have met some Keio grads in the past who were real wa%&$#s but these guys have restored my opinion of the place. Good for them! Harmless fun. Shame they didnt have the balls to do it in the rush hour. Or maybe they did? Wasnt there to see and confirm.....

I hope this little stunt breeds a sense of competition

Excellent point! Let`s hope this breeds a little healthy competitive spirit amongst Tokyo unis. "I will see your naked streak through Hiyoshi and raise you....." hmm, maybe bad choice of words!

Paper underwear? What about all the "hadaka matsuri"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

news on youtube, but no video that the girl took http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lZcx-UbFCY

Slap on the wrist. Just have them sweep the station platform once or twice.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hehe, just wait until the 31st of this month. It's on a Saturday, and I've heard Tokyo's local gaikokujin are planning a big surprise aboard the Yamanote line.

Hehe, just wait until the 31st of this month. It's on a Saturday, and I've heard Tokyo's local gaikokujin are planning a big surprise aboard the Yamanote line.

Nothing to be happy about. Not even much of a surprise, it happens every year.

Hey! You gotta break loose sometime in your life! Not much different than what goes on in the U.S. and Europe.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Japanese are so strict about nudity. Wait, no they're not. Yes, they are! No they're not! I can't seem to decide.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

streaking through a station with your mates at uni - fairly cool.

30 something year old gaijin and ex-exchange students taking over a yamanote carriage on halloween in fancy dress and getting drunk - a bit sad really.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would like to know how many coppers chased them down. Took 40 plus a helicopter yesterday chasing down 2 bad men...so if this group was say 10 kids...multiply it out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The trains WERENT even running yet! Streaking? Thats jogging naked when no-ones around! Streaking is Running through the station at 9'30AM screaming "Banzai! Banzai! Banzai!" and then, if you're Japanese, turning yourself in immediately at the sleepy Hiyoshi Police.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, this is a serious offense that these students will be repramanded over? Yet, at the same station you will find an old fellow peeing on the platform, but that is not an offense. Great!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Like many j-guys, I expect they thought they were funny, but actually weren't. Either way, they're just letting of steam, having abit of fun. Slap on the wrist, and move on. Nothing to see here (no pun intended)

Far more serious crimes out there to be dealt with, like unregistered bicycles.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree that a small penalty of some community service would be appropriate. Or maybe they can make it an annual event, running in fundoshi instead, to give it a more traditional feel.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Come on I've seen worse on Japanese TV.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

good start. i agree with the above poster, they need to (pun intended) show some balls and streak while it's busy in the station. plus don't get caught. or at least make the officers chase their nekkid asses down while the camerawoman stealth records everything, make their arrests worthwhile.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sounds like fun. Slow news day?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

These people are criminals and they deserve the harsh punishments coming to them! Bottom line is they broke the law!Lock them up and throw away the key! What about the people that they harmed running through there naked? They will be forever traumatized from the unsightly display! They need to criminalize alcohol! Oh the dangers of alcohol.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't get it. Why was 1 girl filming 10 streaking males? Was that part of the thrill...and who's idea? Obvioiusly the streaking males, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sounds pretty hot to me...jk- but seriously, people need to take a break and stop taking things like this so seriously

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They just decided to do their own version of what that SMAP idol did a few months back, sitting drunk and naked in a park in front of his condo at Tokyo Midtown, only on the cheap, of course. The SMAP guy is already back on TV so the KEIO boys will be back too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Free willies! Wonder what would have happened if they were female streakers instead.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The lamest bit of all is reporting it as "news"...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Now they have stories to tell their children about college life while the wives giggle inside. Glad it wasn't me though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@ anydaynow..These people are criminals and they deserve the harsh punishments coming to them!

CRIMINAL Definition 1 a person who commits crimes for a living

Definition 2 a person charged with and convicted of crime

Are they any of the above? These are jus fun loving kids who had a little too much!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Boys will be boys.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

a very weedy thing to think about... I dont think anyone would have noticed or cared, even if thay had done it it the rush hour, unless a big crowd of running men with or without clothes, looks like some kind of protest, or was in some way threatening?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I expect the girl filmer enjoyed the sausage display! But really what a fuss about nothing. They didn't attack anyone, didn't rape anyone. Just aired the unmentionables. So what, leave them alone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sounds like a harmless prank. Now if they had tried that at Shinjuku at 0730 it wouldn't have been harmless. But what the heck. Slap on the wrist and get back to class. Take out the trash for a week.

I'll bet none of them got groped!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

walked around the area in paper underwear

We call them diapers.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The cops need to lighten up.

Not that I disagree, Timor, but a complaint was called in, so the j-satsu had less leeway than they might otherwise have had.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Boys will be boys.

And girls will video them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

female student video taped the run

A station shooting? Well that's different.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wasn't there image caught on a station camera? How about getting a print for photo of the day!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Investigator: I agree with you again. Definitely a double standard here. Sure they were naked, but they had enough sense to streak when not many people would be around. Sounds like a fun and harmless escapade to me. Of course you don't want to offend others by running around nude but a certain amount of naked frolicking should be allowed. As others have mentioned, what about onsens. Even Japanese TV has nudity. There's a big difference between young college students having some fun and a sick pervert who exposes himself on the train. Have some common sense here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is pretty normal stuff for Uni students to do. Not a crime.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@anydaynow. Funniest remarks i read today. For a moment i actually thought someone should be as fascist as really meaning this. Hilarious.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ah Keio in the news again. Well at least we know they weren't holding any weed since they were naked.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm not a fan of public nudity, but this is classic college stuff. Let them off with a warning and MAYBE some community service, but seriously, this is at the minor end of the minor scale. They did it when the station was virtually empty, they RAN across the station to reach the bathroom, and there's no indication that anyone was harmed. At worst they caused a few turned stomachs, some blushing giggles, and some fresh gray hairs for their parents.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People here suck, they call the cops for any stupid reason, and cops listen to them dumb dumb dumb

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Have you watched Japanese TV? I have visited Japan several times and omigod..Japanese are really weird doing all those sexy stuff. Then, they can suddenly be very prudish about these naked boys.

Non issue - all the same - the parents should give them some pep talk.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They were releasing stress. No harms done.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

happens anywhere around the world.. :D

they have yet to experience street signs switch prank..
