12-year-old boy taken into custody over attacks on schoolchildren in Saitama

Police said Thursday they have taken a 12-year-old boy into custody in connection with three attacks on schoolchildren in Yashio, Saitama Prefecture, earlier this week.

The first attack occurred on Tuesday when the suspect approached a 6-year-old first-grade boy in the street at around 4 p.m. and said “I’m going to kill you,” before squeezing his neck with both hands, TBS reported. A second similar attack on an 8-year-old boy was reported around 15 minutes later at a location 400 meters away. Twenty minutes later, a schoolgirl reported being groped from behind by a youth.

On Wednesday, police identified the suspect from security camera footage and took the boy into custody. Police said Thursday that he has admitted the charge and is being held at a child consultation center while they investigate his home life and school activities.

Has to be the parents or lack thereof. Still, boys that are left to their own devices for the most part are evil little brats and can get much worse without enough attention from parents.

Psychotherapy needed for the boy.

Poor kids.

But I want to know if any of the other possible readings of the kanji for "Saitama" are "Mordor".

Wow! Poor child - bad parenting. Very sad to hear of such an odd occurrence. This by no means represents the general good nature of young people (pre-pubity anyway). I hope he is counseled correctly and can return to his education in an un-tainted nature.

Future J-policeman!

I can't help but feel pessimistic about this child's chances of getting the help he needs. Could be result of bad home life, could be victim of bullying, could be naturally unstable....whatever the problem, he needs professional help.

My youngest is 13 and he is closing in on 180cm so he would probably look like a young adult to them.

A 12 year old? Bet you didn't see that coming, did yas?

What this little punk needs is an arse whooping and a little time in detention to straighten him out.

Take him out of Saitama?

A 12-year-old? In yesterday's report, they said they were looking for a man. But I know it's hard for little kids to gauge ages.

I do hope they give this lad some proper care and attention, as well as therapy, and some serious changes in his home environment...
