14-year-old boy arrested after stabbing classmate with scissors

Another youth unable to control his anger. And perhaps, another unable to forego an opportunity to bully others. Two wrongs don’t make any of it right. Japan’s schools need to tighten up their supervision of students.

Ban all scissors. Or start taking the bullying in schools, and the provoked responses like this one, seriously.

Still seem to be indistinct lines in charging between the routine “attempted murder” and here today, “aggravated assault”. Must be left to individual police interpretation of the laws on a case-by-case basis or, based on the implement employed in the assault?

There would be a lot less bullying if every kid did this. And I'm being serious. Once you think that you could be stabbed for being a bully, then you will stop being a bully.

I’m guessing the victim was the bully and the assailant snapped and stabbed him. Bullying is terrible but attempted murder is worse. Kids can say really cruel stuff.

While you are at it, ban all knives from being sold to anyone too! Let's just punish all the what, 10 to 20 Million school aged kids because of the actions of one?

A 14 year old cannot be arrested, perhaps detained for questioning but legally can't be arrested

I wonder what the story behind this one is. We will never know of course. Maybe this was the final straw after years of psychological abuse, maybe the attacker suffered some sort of trauma at home. Finding is probably more important than arguing how the kid will not be punished.

14 years old and already a psychopath. Charge him with attempted murder, plain and simple. Expel him permanently as well. There should be zero tolerance. But, and I've seen this before (though not with something ever this serious), what is more likely is that they will make the victim shake the assaulter's hand and both of them apologize), and then let him stay in the classroom saying, "In Japan, it's every student's right to get an education!". Then, the kid will actually succeed in murdering someone next time and they'll say they had no idea that could have happened, and no indicators (after trying to play it down).

Yes, they should make this child a pariah, expel them from society, and force them to a life of homelessness and poverty as punishment. Sterilize them while they're at it. Right? Can I get an Amen?

Without checking the universality of it, I believe that many Japanese schools do already ban scissors.

Sadly, those with a grudge can get driven underground until they lash out in some way at society in general with ‘anyone will do.’

While still a very serious incident that could have had deadly consequences it is fortunate that the only weapon the boy could get were scissors, I hope the victim can fully recover and that the rest of the students that got exposed to this gratuitous display of violence get some time to talk about it with an adult that can help them.
