15-year-old boy arrested for attempted murder after beating woman with hammer

Police in Matsubara, Osaka, said Thursday they have arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder after he hit a 70-year-old woman on the head with a hammer.

According to police, the boy has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying “I hit her because she just happened to be there. I’ve always wanted to kill someone.”

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday as Sumiko Nishiguchi was leaving her house by bicycle, Fuji TV reported. The teenager came up behind her and without saying a word, starting hitting her with a 33-cm-long hammer. Nishiguchi was able to fight the boy off and grab the hammer. However, she suffered a fractured skull but her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Police said the teenager, who was arrested on Wednesday, told them he bought the hammer with the aim of attacking someone. He and Nishiguchi live in the same area but do not know each other.

Police said the boy was identified through street surveillance camera footage. His father said he has not been going to school since last summer.

The family will pay her medical bills and give gomenasai money. Then they will move far away so their neighbors won't know that their kid is a psychopath.

It makes you wonder what kind of home, school and/or social environment produces this kind of 15 year old psychopathic coward.

All good and valid comments here. To me the kid is a psycho and a coward. Random target, no, the kid picked what he thought was an easy target.

Won't happen. Japanese law is very lenient with juveniles.

Which is ridiculous. This was as gratuitous of a crime that goes short of murder after all.

Pukey;

Mental or not, young or old, he needs to be locked up for a very very long time.

Do we need anymore proof of how bad it's getting?

How bad what is getting? I think I need more proof.

Part of the problem right there. Dad needed to give this kid some tough love and discipline, and by that I do mean the strap when necessary.

Then the Dad can be arrested for abuse.

I'm pretty sure that mental health experts would agree that spanking doesn't prevent psychopathic behavior.

Pretty sure his "randomness" in picking the person who just happened to be there was heavily influenced by who he thought he could get away with hitting and escaping from. Had it been, hmm...let's say an 185cm EU/UK/US guy in good shape, I have a sneaking suspicion he would have waited for the next random person.

We need more information...

why he didn't go to school anymore? Bully?

I left school at 16 years old coz i hated it.. i never wanted to kill anyone... i went to work instead.

Another poster on here yesterday posted that the culprit would say the exact same excuse: "I wanted to see what it was like to kill someone." Bingo.

Yeah, I don't believe in the expression, "There's no such thing as a 'bad child'." That's bull.

They weren't related? Pretty uncommon here.

I hope he gets the juvenile jail time

@ Rhaegar - he will stay at home with his parents until he's middle-aged, then someone's life will be cut short. Whose remains to be seen. Or he will be successful in killing someone while young, and will be incarcerated for life.

Some kids are just born bad. Not always the parents' fault. No information about that here.

Too bad this psychopath is a kid who's name won't be disclosed to the general public and will only be referred to as "Shonan A". He won't have to go to school now legally either since he has reached 15, so thats good for the school system I suppose. What kind of a future is he going to have though I wonder?.... he won't be held for long and when he does get released will his idea of "wanting to kill someone" still be there? Will he be treated? if such a thing is even possible. He'll be physically stronger and his next victim might not be so lucky. Glad the lady is going to be ok though, kudos to her for fighting back and glad he was apprehended so soon.

Oh, how wonderful!
