Police in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, are looking for the driver of a car that hit and killed a 15-year-old boy who fell off the back of a bicycle he was riding with a friend.

According to a woman who witnessed the incident, the two boys were riding along a street at 9 p.m. Tuesday when the bike lost its balance, Sankei Shimbun reported. The boy on the back fell off and was struck by a car following the bike. The car kept going, the woman said.

rest in peace young man. riding on the back of a bicycle is illegal. that being said, this is so sad - the driver is a heinous person for running away. please - there are rules and laws for a reason.

Jpolice need to start enforcing bike laws. Two person riding, three person riding, riding on the wrong side of the of the road against the flow of traffic...all have to stop!

If the boys were found to be riding on the bike illegally with the flow of traffic, the driver should have stopped and he would have excused. He runs and now he is setting up prison time if found.

Two wrongs don't make a right! The driver should have stopped. My guess is, we will here the excuse, "I thought I hit something but I wasn't sure."

Rest in Peace to the poor boy. Sure - he was breaking the law (most kids in Japan I see break several laws each time they jump on a bike) - however compared to the heinous crime the driver has committed it is trivial. Callously driving off after knowingly hitting a child is unforgivable - and I hope the driver is mentally tortured for the rest of their miserable days. Doubt he/she will ever be caught.

Not so sure about that. Most likely scenario - the driver gets arrested and charged with violation of safe-driving practice resulting in manslaughter.

Despite the kids being dumb and one having to pay for it with his life, the driver continuing to go without stopping is beyond dispicable.

Now, that said, perhaps the police can start doing their jobs and enforcing bicycle safety laws?

running away is low...hope he gets caught.. darwin indeed though, its well illegal to ride 2 people on a bike for exact same reasons...so there you go.

Tomasz is right about the likely (as in virtually certain) scenario. I agree with smithinjapan, too, but I'm not holding my breath until it happens.

If he stayed, though it would have been the noble thing to do, the driver would be screwed to no end. His/her life would be over, or rather begin anew behind bars, despite it not being his/her fault. Go driver go! Too bad for the boy, RIP. riding on the back of your friend's mamachari seemed like a good idea at the time...
