A 66-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her grandson in the chest, then stabbed herself on Monday afternoon in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture, police said. The pair were rushed to hospital where the boy was confirmed dead.
The grandmother is in a serious but stable condition, police said, adding that she has confessed to stabbing her grandson.
According to police, the woman lived together with her children and grandchildren as a family of six. Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, police said they received a call from the boy's older sister reporting that her brother had been stabbed. Police arrived to find the boy and his grandmother collapsed in the kitchen of the family's home, with a kitchen knife laying nearby.
Police believe the pair had argued right before the stabbing occurred.

So sad.
This obaasan needs to be locked up for good.

Gees! That's relief! What would another week in Japan be without the ubiquitous family killing?
ratpack
Now how did you come to that conclusion columbo? Did the people around you say 'ahhh sooooka' after you made this monumental conclusion??
ronaldk
Wow! Never heard of a granny murderer.
VelvetRosetta
My goodness a grandma stabs her grandson!...what is it with these old ladies and kids...the other day one breaks a teenagers nose on a bus, and now this...scary!!!
Eyeblack
What did they argue about? How can we judge whether or not she is wrong if we don't know what they argued about?
chotto
Because you see, you sarcy individual, it could of been a random-snap moment; completely unrelated.
VelvetRosetta
No matter what the argument was about, you don't go around stabbing ppl! And then worse your own flesh and blood...sick!!

What's this joint coming to? Even pensioners are now running around angry, aggressive and wielding weapons... hate to be a kid!
BurakuminDes
Eyeblack, I dunno what the justice system is like back in your home - but even if she was in the right over the argument, and he had lost the argument - there is no need to use deadly weapons against a child. Hate to go to your place!

Here we go again.... so what's the story this time? Let's see...
J-news reports that the the boy and his sister lived away from their parents. Granny was acutally raising the kids. They had a couple of arguments before.
I guess she couldn't handle her grandson's hankouki very well...
ratpack
I guess Columbo was informed by the other family members present that they were at each others throats
Hence the brainwaves conclusion:

Naw, she's old, and it was a member of her family. Slap on the wrist, bad granny, and back home she goes. Probably nothing more then a suspended sentence.

RIP to the boy. Condolences to the older sister and the rest of the family. Grandmother or not, this woman needs to be punished accordingly.

I feel so sorry for children of this country.

Still defend old lady attack 'rude manner' youth? No, I did not believe so.
Fadamor
The only defense the granny could possibly offer would be if he was physically attacking her and she was defending herself. There are 15-year-old boys that can put a serious hurting on 66-year-old women.
Stabbing him just because they were arguing is not a valid defense. (At least not one that should be considered by a jury)
crazygaijin
guess granny got her point across in that argument.

Molenir - you said it! Nothing will happen to her except nasty gossip from the other obasans in her neighborhood.

People are too quick to grab a knife these days

Japan is not a crime-filled country, but crime does indeed exist. The thing is, when Japanese people do actually commit a crime, it is kinda extreme compared to the Western world. Granny stabbing her grandson? Mom tying up her 5-y/o and repeatedly sticking her in a washing machine? Father putting infant in a microwave?
It seems that often times people in Japan downplay the violence in the country by comparing it to, say, America, which is damn huge compared to Japan.
