Police on Friday arrested a 16-year-old youth for allegedly beating his 76-year-old grandfather to death at their apartment. Police said the boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, punched his grandfather in the face and stomach for 45 minutes just after noon on Wednesday at their apartment in Marukame City in Kagawa Prefecture.

According to police, the boy left his grandfather for about 20 hours. He called an ambulance on Thursday morning, after his grandfather didn't regain consciousness. He also called police and admitted to the assault. The victim was taken to hospital but died Thursday night.

The suspect was quoted by police as saying, “I had to take care of him, but I got angry because I couldn't make him understand me.” Police said the two live together, but gave no information on the boy' parents.

So so sad, yet another teen losing control.

With all of these kids committing murder they should start trying them as adults. Maybe that will keep them in line?

That grandfather must have felt very disappointed when he was dying.

Sounds like more deadbeat parents leaving their kids at home all day. In this case to look after the old man. Yet another sorry picture of the ugly underbelly of this country

I thought Japanese family crimes would get worser...

This "PUNK" should have his ass whipped 24-7 for a year and then put in prison for the rest of his LIFE!

A child's emotional state is a product of his surroundings. What was he surrounded by?

"I got angry because I couldn’t make him understand me.”

Sounds to me like the old man was seriously senile. He should have had professional care, not some teenager without any training in caregiving.

Yep, why is a 16 year old kid looking after his senile Grandpa? The kid sounded like he just got too strung out, and realised his actions a little too late. Punching him for 45 minutes means the poor kid had really lost it. He had his life ahead of him and was relegated to looking after someone who had lived his, now his life will be scarred by the memory of what he did, all because he was in a situation that he shouldn't have been in at that age. But I should catch myself before I get too far ahead, or did I already...do we know if he was just looking after Pops here and there, or just this once, of all the time? I hope its not a case of him cracking at the first excuse.
