16-year-old boy who killed father to undergo psychiatric evaluation for 3 months

Prosecutors in Yokohama have decided to have a 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of killing his 47-year-old father undergo a psychiatric examination for three months to determine if he can be held criminally liable for his actions.

According to police, the teenager stabbed his father several times in the head with a fruit knife at their apartment in Kanagawa Ward on May 16, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police at a nearby koban were visited by the victim’s sister at around 2 p.m. on May 25. She told them she was worried because she hadn’t heard from him recently.

Police went to the apartment and found the man’s body submerged in a bathtub. The boy, who lived alone with his father, was home at the time. He was quoted by police as saying “My dad was physically abusive toward me.

Prosecutors said the boy will undergo a series of tests until Sept 14.

This is about as insane as the crime itself. If it takes three months to make this kind of evaluation, the psychs conducting it are clueless. Well, to be honest, the whole subject is clueless.

Three months for an eval is great. The kid deserves some therapy for the abuse he suffered under his father's hand.

It is hard to judge this from the outside. Maybe the boy has a mental problem, or maybe his claim of abuse is true. Anybody who judges just on the basis of this short article is simply speculating.

In the event, I was personally involved in a situation where a 16-year old who we knew became physically abusive against his partially disabled father. In this case, we had him live for while in our house for a while. It was a complicated situation, and not one that could be completely described in a 3-paragraph news article.

What the?

The Dead can't talk, so whatever the kid claims is a toss. Even if he was abused, there are several ways this could have been resolved without taking someones life, but I guess the boy lost it.

Without condoning the murder, you have to wonder what kind of monster the father was to push this kid to kill him.
