Police in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Sunday arrested a 16-year-old girl in connection with the death of her classmate who had been missing since last month.
According to police, the girl, accompanied by her mother, turned herself in at a police station in Kure on Friday night and said she had killed her classmate and abandoned her body on a nearby mountain, Fuji TV reported.
Acting on the suspect's information, police on Saturday found the missing girl's body about 20 meters off a path near the summit of Mt Haigamine.
The girl was quoted by police as saying she and her classmate had gone up to the mountain and they had got into an argument after which she killed her companion, Fuji reported.
Police have not released details of what the argument was about or how the girl died and said Sunday that the suspect has initially been charged with abandoning a body.

Seems to be many ticking time-bombs in Japan. Usually, you can tell if someone is bad news, or at least someone you wouldn't want to associate with, but in public I bet she seemed like a normal Japanese teen.

What were they doing up a mountain? I wonder if it was pre-meditated? So many questions.
nyunt_shwe
I believe it's premeditated. By telling the whole story, the police could lower the rate of juvenile crimes. She should be rightly ashamed and repent of what she has done to a human being.

I see the supersleuths are out early this morning. :-) Yesterday, a 15-year old stabs a random woman in the back, and now this. Horrendous, if you ask me. I remember two decades ago when these types of crimes were quite rare and felt shocking. As bad as they are, they seem almost commonplace nowadays. What is happening to Japan?!

Sick!

A very sad story.

Most worrying. Juvenile crime is one the increase in 'safe' Japan and it seems these youths don't understand the morality behind why it's wrong.

When girls have arguments ... !
CrazyJoe
According to the news it takes about 30 minutes to get to the crime scene by car from Kure (train) station. I suspect involvement of a third party.

Sounds like a spur of the moment type thing. Argument, push, whoops.
What I don't get is why would anybody go into the hills with somebody that they could quickly get angry enough to kill?
Unless of course this was premeditated...

What about murder charges?

but she already confessed that she killed her classmate? i guess end of story!

Terrible crime, perhaps an act of momentary madness that will haunt her days.
But they have done the right thing, and kudos to her mother - I imagine it must be a very hard thing to do. We hear a lot on this board about how irresponsible Japanese parents are, and what terrible parents they make - well, here is an example of just the opposite.

The daily "I was in a bad mood, so I KILLED the person!" report is in. That's at least 4 days in a row now.

This is so bad, i wonder if she is mentally sound i am aftaid of these teenagers than adults in Japan they are capable of anything becoz they know that the law is on their rescure just becoz they are still teens.
Skeeter27
No mentally sound person kills another

Good for her mother

15 ago I thought the same thing.. until a friend in the know told me they just didn't used to report them as often back in the day...
spudman
it's statistically getting safer but reporting is instant and more global. Newspapers only reported crime locally usually.
nandakandamanda
The police also say they suspect the involvement of a third person. Is she covering up for someone?

Personally, I think the scariest part of this story is how long the Japanese police can hold you without charge or arrest. How much more cut and dried could this case be? Why wait weeks to formally arrest her?
Xinef
well that escalated quickly

This is terrible and sad, when some one read about teenage crimes, unfortunately it is on the rise, bullying, suicides and even killing, this is very serious situation for kids. Kids do have problems with their parents, with other kids and some time personal problems but here the reaction of some kids are extremely dangerous and they surely cross the limits. what is wrong? do the kids lack communication? do they not know how to react to a particular situation? are there too much isolation? are they under the influence of the violent moves and games? do their elders react properly during awkward or stressful situations?and can they learn from them?

Very sick and horrifying! May God have mercy on your soulless and heartless spirit. My prayers goes out to the victim and the family.

I really doubt a 16 year GIRL can do all of this by HERSELF!! RIP poor other girl, now dead, killed by at least one stupid other girl and??
CrimsonRedMoon
What a truly evil and heartless thing to do.

You know, I think it's pretty admirable that she turned herself in. Yes, it was a horrible, awful thing to do, but the fact that she turned herself in means she's not a total monster. It takes a hell of a lot of inner strength to face justice. That doesn't make her a good person, but it does make her several steps up from the people who don't care about what they've done and just want to get away with it.

It is time to add "resolving conflicts non-violent" it the school's curriculum?
Dennis Bauer
oops, to the school's curriculum
nsv
it looks like a love triangle and the girls should have tossed the coin to decide the winner.
Thunderbird2
I suppose it makes a change from teenage boys killing their parents or other relatives thanks to a bad mood... You don't hear much about girls killing or carrying out unprovoked attacks of violence.

Hmm, let's leave religion out of it.
Prayer - How to do nothing but feel like you're actually doing something to help.
