According to the Chiba District Court ruling, Kurihara caused the death of his daughter Mia by not giving her enough food, depriving her of sleep and showering her with cold water for a period of time between Jan 22 and 24, 2019, at their family home in Noda, Chiba Prefecture.

I remember the case. He went to the school board and loudly complained that he could not see the questionnaire where his daughter had described abuse at home. And the schoolboard cowards caved and gave him the letter. Any news of punishment for the people who committed this betrayal?

The court also determined Kurihara should face the harshest sentence possible for bodily injury resulting in the death of a single person.

16 years is too little for what he did.

What factual misunderstandings ?

He tortured his daughter and she died.

and his sentence was too severe.

Not severe enough for what he did to his 10-year-old daughter.

He deserves it and is lucky that is all he got as his actions caused her death.

It should really be 16 years per each year his daughter was alive to put up with him. 160 years in total, like a walk a thon.

Absolutely no forgiveness for those who harm children. That poor girl.... May she rest in peace.

If he had an ounce of decency he would end his own life.

If they can not trust their school officials, what makes you think they trust other agencies?

Would you rather have been that little girl? One thing about the death penalty, he won’t be able to do that to anyone else.

The Mom, I believe, has completed her sentence.

Hopefully some sort of punishment is meted out to this man in prison by the other inmates and the guards look the other way.

He reportedly has anger issues, let him lose his temper against a man his own size for once.

Also, It would be nice to see the some sort of punishment given to the school board especially to her 担任先生、 the teacher who not only ignored her pleas for help, but betrayed her trust by showing the "Cries for Help Letter" to her step-father, whose actions upon seeing the letter resulted in her death.
