Police on Thursday arrested a 17-year-old man for stabbing his 24-year-old work colleague to death in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture. The suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his colleague Yuji Akaishi, 24, at the victim's apartment around 1 a.m.
Akaishi was taken to hospital but died soon after arrival. Police found the suspect in the car park of a book shop near the crime scene and arrested him. According to police, the suspect borrowed money from the victim and the two quarreled about it. The two work at a construction site

As Far as I know, a 17 year old is still considered a boy in Japan.
mindovermatter
17-year-old man
Ok, JT, what is it.... He's a Man(Adult) or Juvenile...? Can we be consistent?

Kids are going on the loose lately here. It's becoming rather common

Seriously JT, you have to choose, what is he? If he is a man, then say his name.
Moderator: The law prevents him from being named in the media.
Youdontknow
If he's a 'man' tell us his name... If he's a 'juvenile' who killed someone...tell us his name anyway and let's stop the treading softly crap! Society has a right to know who these animals are!

Until the bloody "minor" laws are fixed for cases like these you can't demand for these "minors" to take responsibilty. Remember, they're a LOT smarter than you give them credit for. Commiting murder and other excessive crimes while they're still under 20 is like a Get out of Jail free card. The "kids" know it but the adults still haven't accepted it.
Even a 12 year old knows its wrong to kill things, possibly even an 8 year old.

Anybody over 15 should be charged as an adult

Spidey,
No. Because only a licensed doctor can announce someone dead, even if the body is under a 20-ton truck and the truck is flatter than a pancake, the person under it isn't 'dead' unless someone who spent time (cough) studying (cough) in a medical school says so.
On topic, if the government decides 18-year-olds can vote (as they threaten to do) then I assume 'legal adulthood' will also begin at 18. Of course, this guy will still not have his names in lights.
Spidey
Borscht...of course. However, the article says that he was ALIVE when brought to the hospital. Herein lies the crutch of my statement.

He got stabbed at 1 am, but I wonder how long it took before he recieved medical attention, since, after all, he was stabbed in his apartment and the 17 year old ran off to a bookstore somewher. The long time he spent bleeding out is probably why he died, even if the hospital did do their job to the best degree possible. But as Spidey suggests, it's a bit sketchy, isn't it?

Apparently they were in the apartment of a female friend of theirs and started to fight over debts.
So my guess is that she called the cops and ambulance.
Also many stab-wounds can lead to death very quickly if major blood-vessels, etc are severed.
Statistics show that stab-wounds are more often more lethal than gun-shot wounds.

Phew just in time. In a few weeks time he could have been named and shamed behind bars.
