Police in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 17-year-old youth for impersonating a police officer by using a fake badge and ID in order to obtain the phone number and address of a woman.

According to police, the incident occurred in mid-March. The woman, 18, works in a bar. Fuji TV reported that the youth, wearing a suit, came into the bar with a police badge and an ID with his own photo on it, identifying him as being 27 years old and head of the police department’s Community Safety Division.

He said he wanted the contact info of the woman. However, when the woman became suspicious, he left the bar.

The suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, works part-time. Police said he has denied the charge of impersonating a police officer. He was quoted as saying he asked the woman for her contact info but couldn’t remember showing her a police badge or ID.

Police said he bought the badge online.

Well he had a plan...unfortunately for him (and luckily for her) he's not the brightest.

Police should hire him instead. Someone with some initiatives!

There's enough dodgy law enforcers out there without this clown. Plain creepy.

Tumbledry

You want to reward criminal behavior? What if someone stalked your family impersonating an officer of the law cause he was a pervert? Would you applaud his "initiative"?

thepersoniamnow: I will need to add "" every time I'm being sarcastic as some people don't get it...

What is it with these guys?

Walk up and ask the girl out, it's a lot easier than these elaborate criminal schemes!

Starting out young... Hope it doesn't go too far...

At least he is working part-time - that's better than being a "stay-at-home good-for-nothing" scrounging off his parents !

As Mike L says : just ask the girl out !

Isnt sarcasm supposed to be funny or ironic?

Don't see too many 17 year old Japanese guys who look 27!

couldn’t remember anything about showing her a police badge or ID.

Police said he bought the badge online.

This doesn't make sense.

I also get your sarcasm, but many don't get it.

Obviously not!!

Actually I found that quite clever and a little ballsy. I applaud his efforts IF it was purely innocent. A part of me wants to think he was just being creative to get the girl's digits. But to ask for an address... That is a little awkward. I am glad she has a good head on her shoulders.

So he wanted to make time with the woman disguising himself as a police officer. Ha-ha. Sounds like a farcical play. He might rather want to become an actor and famous among women. :‑)

Meanwhile, back in Saitama..... we have an 18 year old girl working in a bar and a 17 year old (high school student) patronizing the bar with fake police ID. He then used his fake ID in an attempt to obtain the girl's personal information for purposes not yet made clear. Just another day in paradise!

If he's a minor can't the police also charge him for being in a licensed premises, or am I missing something here?

If young dude's only goal was to get her contact info, then I give him 8/10.

If it was to also get laid (or get a date then GL) then am afraid it's a 0.5/10. What young (or not) woman in her right mind would willingly have sex with a psycho/liar? Ain't going to work pal.

Surprised the girl didnt see the humour and take it as a compliment with the effort he put in trying to get a date.

Should have changed the age to 37 or the job title to something like junior inspector. A young babbie isn't gonna be head of anything - no wonder she saw through his plan.

A lot do. I guess it is the awsome "bad boy" image, I don't know. But he didn't seem to be that bad, although we do not know his true intensions.

Uh, why not just be nice and strike up a conversation. You never know where that will lead.

Japanese guys seem like real dorks.

How the hell is it a compliment to have a stranger try to get your address and phone number? It's extremely threatening is what it is, and she was quite right to report him.

Interesting comparison of how male and female minors are being described in this article. He is a "youth" at 17, but she is a "woman" at 18. how do you figure that, JT - mental development and emotional maturity?

He probably could pass for a J-cop. ALOT of them are even sleazier and creepier than this guy

"Uh, why not just be nice and strike up a conversation. You never know where that will lead."

Some people have no game or are simply boring. Girls like clever and inventive people. Had he not asked for her full adress, perhaps just the city and her phone number and email this would not have seemed so bad.

For all we know she could have been impressed, they began dating, got married, had children and tell their grand children how their grandfather impersonated a cop just to talk to their grandmother. It is sweet.

However this could of also went the opposite way and no chance to of had grandchildren or even get married because she was murdered...

But let's try to think happy thoughts!

He should've tried it with a girl on a bicycle instead. That's where most cops here have their most success. Hassling people on bikes.
