The body of an 18-year-old girl was found at the edge of a river in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Friday night. Police said the girl’s father was found collapsed on the ground nearby, with a stab wound to his neck in what they believe was an attempted suicide.

According to police, the girl’s body was found by a passerby at around 9 p.m. on the bank of the Naka River, Fuji TV reported. Police said the girl was lying on her back and was confirmed dead at the scene. There were no external signs of injury on her body and police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The girl’s 48-year-old father was found several meters away. Police said he had apparently stabbed himself in the neck. He was taken to hospital where doctors on Saturday said his condition was serious but stable.

Police said they will wait until the man recovers before questioning him about the circumstances of his daughter’s death. His car was also found near the scene.

It's not an attempt if she's dead.

She’s dead. The attempted suicide refers to him, as explained in the article

With the change in the age of adulthood, wouldn't she be considered a woman, not a girl?

How do you know this is a situation where a man has killed his daughter, when it has not been concluded by the people who are investigating it, and the man has not even been questioned?

Exactly.

There's a high probability that the father attempted to kill himself out of grief after finding the corpse of his daughter.

There's also a high probability that the father tried to kill himself out of grief after witnessing his daughter commit suicide.

Additionally, there is a high probability the father tried to kill himself out of grief after witnessing someone else kill his daughter.

Furthermore, there is a high probability the daughter tried to kill the father and then killed herself.

That question needs to be answered before yours has any relevance.

Incorrect. The father having a motive - a secret - would shed light on whether the father did kill his daughter. Who killed the daughter does not need to be answered before the question of if the father had a motive to do it is relevant.

There isn't enough evidence judging by the article this could be a possible murder and

I don't see how it a suicide attempt what this article said doesn't give enough evidence and it

not clear enough.
