It should be 18 years for the abuse and another 18 years for her death!

I think there is a simple way to do this.

The average lifespan for a Japanese woman is now around 86 years. This poor young girl was 5 years old when her innocent life was brutally taken from her by this animal.

I think the minimum sentence should be the amount of years he took way from her (86-5=81)

Sentence him for 81 years and call it good.

Still too short.

He really deserves the cable neck tie for this. But let's hope at least he gets the 18years to rot in prison with a bunch of guys much bigger than him (I've seen him on the news) showing just what suffering is

Wearing a dark suit, the defendant looked nervous with a tight expression, clenching his fists on his lap as prosecutors made their argument. "I'm really sorry," a crying Funato apologized in his final statement.

Brave enough to beat a 5 year old and cause her death, but crying like a baby when faced with the consequences.

Sorry excuse for a man.

The defense lawyers added Funato did not completely neglect Yua as he sometimes fed her bananas, and "tried to become her father."

Even the defense lawyers know they can't find any excuse for him...

All of you thinking he'll receive prison justice are clearly unfamiliar with Japanese prisons. The inmates are far more tightly controlled than in Western prisons, so the likelihood of any prison justice being dished is very, very low.

That said, send him to a US prison and put him straight into gen pop whilst advertising his crime. It would only be a matter of days before he felt the same fear and pain he inflicted on that poor little girl. (It really irritates me that I feel this would be appropriate, but it was a five year old ffs.)

Sentence him for 81 years and call it good.

No matter what sentence this monster receives, it will not bring poor Yua back and that is the most heartbreaking thing of all.

He deserves life in prison at the very least. Hopefully the other prisoners make it the worst 18 years imaginable for him.

I agree with one above posting this sentence is way to light for this unnecessary crime.

Because it happened to a child who could not defend herself the crime should fit the punishment in this case. The court system has failed the people and the deceased child.

@Chip; I am against the death penalty in principle but this case really tests my conviction on that.

I could not imagine 81 years in a Japanese prison (maybe that is worse).

Exactly why I don't support the death penalty. Death is a release from punishment. Never eating steak or making love to a woman again is a punishment!

Hope he gets every year of that. More would be better.

So this creature starved, beat and tortured a 5 yr. old and gets 18yrs????

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Forget "abuse," "neglect," he MURDERED the girl. He should hang.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Sentence him for 81 years and call it good.

I can line with that; however, you are advocating proportionality, so why not the death penalty. If you oppose the death penalty, I completely understand given it serves no purpose beyond retribution.

Basically, I echo all the above.

he,s not gonna get outta there alive ...

agree. that,s too fast. we want them to be punished in this life so we can be sure they suffer.

continuation

i agree with what was said, that the death penalty is not enough. we wanna make sure that they suffer ( and after they,re dead, it,s gone ). on the other hand, knowing that you,re gonna die soon, that,s unimaginable, and then the execution itself... different kinds of punishment and suffering. in the end i just hope that he finds Hell on Earth. not sure if 18 years is enough for that.

Too bad Japanese prisons don't seem to mete out their own kind of justice for various types of criminal like they do in other countries.

This guy deserves the worst of the worst. Hope he gets what's coming to him during his stay.

Agreed.

So why suggest it then go on to say you are against it? smh

I didn't suggest the death penalty; I asked a poster that was suggesting a proportional sentence.

Anyone that thinks that killing is justified outside of direct self defense may as well just overlook all killings and advocate sending this guy on his merry way. I am not impressed by anyone's excuses for advocating killing. They all look pretty much the same to me....usually complaints about people not being "good". An eye for an eye leaves us all blind.

Save this post, screenshot it

This guy will not be getting 18 yrs. His sentence will be much less. RIP little Angel.
