Police in Hiroshima on Saturday arrested a 19-year-old youth on suspicion of killing his 65-grandmother by beating her to death at their home.

According to police, the suspect – who cannot be named because he is a minor – repeatedly punched his grandmother in the face with both fists at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Fuji TV reported that the suspect then called 119 and said his grandmother had fallen unconscious. She was taken to hospital where she died at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect lived with his older sister, mother and grandmother. His mother and sister were out on Friday afternoon.

Police said the suspect – who is unemployed and does not attend university -- has admitted killing his grandmother and said relations between himself and her had been bad for some time.

Charge him as an adult, please. He savagely beat a person -- and a blood relative at that -- to death with his bare hands. And also, drop the "he's a minor" BS. Name him, shame him, then lock him away. Don't know when his birthday is but I don't want this sicko walking around in a max 11 months.

19 years old? He saved himself from serious charges by one year.

The beating of grand mother shows the level and depth in which we have fallen down with respect to family values and respect for elders. Our values are inversely proportionate to so called material prosperity and financial stability. We need to protect our family system and we cannot lead a life of lose pyjama life. It is the responsibility of each and everyone to move forward without losing our cultural values, ethics and moral standards.

You know how this probably started..."Don't you think it's time to put down the video games, get a job, and help support the family?"

If 19 isn't an adult than what age is in Japan

20yrs to become am adult.

Hence many Uni students are still minors.

Name this POS, shame him, jail him, and then, as punishment, have someone bash his face in with two fists so he can feel the pain his poor grandmother did.

I didn't get along with my grandmother when I was a teen, but I learned to keep my mouth shut and tolerate her ways, which were not mine. But no matter how upset I got, I would have never under any circumstances hurt her.

People may not have guns in Japan, but they have fists, or knives or lighters, and they get the job done one way or another. This "19-year-old" is old enough to be named and shamed, and no matter how old he is, he will never become an adult, since he proved that he has the mental capacity of a sick 8-year-old on drugs (which maybe he was -- on drugs, that is).

I never grew up with a father figure either, but I never felt the need to beat my grandmother to death. I grew up into a good man, it's not just something you learn from a father figure.

I agree with Belrick, I never grew up with a father at all.

I had a Japanese mother and grounded core family values. Not having a father excuse is a cop out .
