19-year-old arrested over hotel stabbing that left woman dead, man injured

Police in Tachikawa, Tokyo, have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he fatally stabbed a 31-year-old female sex worker at a hotel on Tuesday. The suspect, who cannot be named because he is a minor, also stabbed the woman’s male companion.

Police said the suspect has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he became “interested in killing” after watching a film of people being murdered on the internet, Sankei Shimbun reported. He also told police that “the sex industry is not helping with the declining birthrate and aging population” in Japan.

Police said the suspect checked into the hotel at 3:30 p.m., shortly before the woman, Michi Mamoriya, arrived at 3:45 p.m. It is believed she and the suspect got into an argument because she used the room phone to call her male companion and ask him to come and help her. After that, the suspect stabbed Mamoriya around 70 times, police said.

When her 25-year-old companion arrived, he knocked on the door, then went into the room where he also was attacked. The suspect fled from the hotel, leaving a blood-stained knife in the hotel corridor, police said. The male victim was able to call 119.

The suspect was arrested Wednesday in Akiruno, Tokyo.

Yes it is. In America he would be called an 'incel'. Well he needs to be in a cell for life. And at 19 he should know better.

You do not know if he is an incel or not. Not from the article at least.

he told police that “the sex industry is not helping with the declining birthrate and aging population”

is that the motive?!

More like an excuse.

"I wonder if he had severe abuse from his mother that bottled up such rage.[?]"

His mother probably paid for his rent, paid his telephone bill, bought food for him on a weekly basis, and likely gave him money whenever he asked...

And this is the way that he has repaid her.

No coincidence these things are happening with alarming frequency.

Not according to our resident amen corner, with their article of faith, ‘there’s nothing to see here, move along’’ belief that we’re living in the best of all possible worlds. It’s an increasingly threadbare and desperate sounding retort, but they trot it out every time. An obstinacy increasingly at odds with the lived reality of people like poor Michi Mamoriya who surely would’ve begged to differ with their head in the sand denial that malefic behavior is worsening and especially with their complicity in trying to divert attention away from addressing the problems we in the reality based community keep drawing to their attention.

Chottobaka

Stabbed her 70 times and likely to use the "I do not recall the incident" defense.

He does not need to! He is under 20, so pretty much safe under Japanese law. All these phantasies about ropes and jail times and what not are so moot. This is Japan, and Japanese law applies.

Poor woman. I wonder if he had severe abuse from his mother that bottled up such rage. Hang him high.

I assume no, so what? Don´t you have anything in your past that you keep private?

What a way to miss the point. I am sure that if you had sex for money in a past life, your wife would be filing divorce papers any time around about now.

I am not in favour of the death penalty, but in this case it is acceptable, and appropriate, even if he is a minor, there is something seriously wrong in his head, it would seam reasonable to beleave that it was planned, ie hes got a knife with him, she must have known something was wrong at the beginning as she called her pimp, sorry companion to help her.

Nor the killer don't get a heavy sentence because he killed a sex worker, like you said.

Right and wrong. Correct, he will not get a heavy sentence. But wrong, not because she was a sex worker, but he is under 20-year line. A year later, and everything would be different.

I wonder if hubby knows she worked at the delicatessen?

I assume no, so what? Don´t you have anything in your past that you keep private?

It is not uncommon for female students to pay their way through college by way of the sex trade. I knew a girl who worked sex chat lines - devout Chrisitan, too, LOL!

Still, one would think that a chance encounter with a lunatic is something of an occupational hazard for sex workers, along with lifestyle diseases.

You can also meet a murderous lunatic while working at a combini or have private date. And the deli healt outfits have a system where where the girls confirm the start and end of an appointment with them, and the clients ketai or hotel number are known.

Sorry, but where exactly is your information from?

Saying 'never', 'most' and 'majority' is a stretch, really, because there's not only call girls ("Delivery Health"), but also a lot of other establishments in the sex industry.

That being said, 'Delivery Health' workers, due to the nature of said business (they go to a hotel or client's house), are indeed less protected than workers on a physical store-type establishment.

When they have some trouble, I suppose they first try to settle it privately, but if they do have to call the police, I think the police will do their job. Working on the sex industry is not illegal per se (selling vaginal sex is, though), so the police don't really have any reason to turn a blind eye. Nor the killer don't get a heavy sentence because he killed a sex worker, like you said.

I know a girl who financed her degree at Waseda by working at deli health.

Extremely disturbing. This article makes me extremely sad and extremely outraged just reading it. The act alone is disturbing and what is even more disturbing is that it was done to an innocent woman who did absolutely nothing to him. This kind of disturbing act is never justified although it could be slightly logical if this kind of thing was done by a victim of a schoolyard bully who was bullied every single day and every single second non-stop for over a decade. We all know Michi Mamoriya did absolutely nothing to this trash. She was a decent individual just doing her job to make ends meet. It is extremely unforunate that Michi Mamoriya crossed paths with this trash. Extremely sad R.I.P.

19 so can't be named. Retarded.

I do appreciate the comparatively low crime rate here, but when people do flip out, man, they really don’t do half measures.

This is to be expected in a predominantly introverted society. A lot of pent up anxiety and anguish just waiting to be let go.

CaptDingleheimer - priceless. I've never seen the attraction in paying for sex: the pursuit, after all, is half the fun. But I have sympathy for those whose only two choices are working in a dead-end, mind-numbing job for a pittance

Depends on what you call a pittance. I know a girl who financed her degree at Waseda by working at deli health. (She is married to a wealthy expat today, fwiw). I certainly have sympathy for those who are forced into low-grade sex work, but there is a variety of situations out there.

To be locked for life.

Won´t happen. He is 19, so not adult according to Japanese law. Alas, he will be out again too soon.

Another random violent crime, by some unhinged individual getting inspiration from watching something online. No coincidence these things are happening with alarming frequency.

Killing people is also not "helping with the declining birthrate and aging population.”

Obviously an extreme case, but the reactionary uninformed views of many young people I have encountered recently in Japan is a serious concern.

Those successful plan ahead and stash their cash away. The foolish blow it on designer handbags.

I knew a guy who was a 'bouncer' for Delivery Health hookers in Japan.

He was a skinny, peaceful Japanese hippie dude, stoned all the time. It always puzzled me as to what the hell they expected that guy to do if someone got violent.

70 times stabbed? Surelly that's a typo...

If not, that psycho should be judged as a grown-up

He should be tried as an adult even if he stabbed her one time.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

70 Times is a lot of times! I will bet 50% was against her defending herself. Arms and hands mostly. Lock him up in a Japanese jail for the rest of his life or better yet, give him the penalty he gave to her.
